So what do you carry with you on a road trip, or everyday, in your trunk in case you have mechanical problems? I imagine Dennis with a MAF, ECU, TCU, FPCU, and all kinds of parts along with a full tool box. Me, I just have my spare tire stuff and a basic 3/8 metric rachet and socket set.

Metric socket set, various screwdrivers, jumper cables, rags/towels, FSM, and an electric impact wrench that's not exactly that useful in emergencies but nice to have around. Oh, there's also a big piece of wood that I'm using to hold up the hood until I get around to ordering new struts for it. Also good for self defense or keeping the knees out of mud.

Cell phone and roadside assistance policy. CB and extra CD ROM magazines on cross country trips.

It's all about weight and luggage capacity.

The thing you don't have along will be the thing that fails. When you are stuck in podunk at Billy Bob Dodge and Tractor Repair and who considers a Camry a furren car, it's often up to you to diagnose and order INET parts.

I'm with Brian. I have a cell phone on my hip, and a folding chair in the trunk, that way I can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air while I wait for the flatbed to come.

Spoken like Q owners who bought their Q new from the dealership. That's how the Japanese designed 'em!

I'm reminded that I do have a few other things. I have a FSM, jumper cables, basic screwdrivers, pliers, spare tire stuff, an air gauge, and my rachet set.

I keep a cell phone with charger and my AAA Premier card handy at all times.

I had the billy-bob experience with my 1984 300ZX in Yuma, Arizona in 116 degree heat, just had the radiator flushed and the mechanic put the plastic screw back, didn't know they were one and done. Blew out the full load of fluid 20 miles west of Yuma, AAA took me to Billy-Bob and he said "what the hell is the POS anyways I will probably have to order parts from Yokooohaamma"at which point I told the AAA guy to get me out of there and drop my car off at Nissan of Yuma (ther really was one) and drop me off at the Do Drop In Motel for the night. Next day new fluid $35 bucks and onwards. Funny how there were rooms available in August in Yuma at the Do Drop In (swear it was really called that).

Now that you mention it, I do have 3 screw drivers, a battery powered air pump (for blow-outs with my 35 series tires) and a roll of duch tape (I can fix anything with that).

On me at all times is my Leatherman Charge TTi and bit kit with adaptor and 1/4" drive and extension, which covers about 95% of the worlds tool needs. In my backpack that constantly follows me I have another multi-tool, an LED Krypton flashlight with backup AAA batteries, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, a journal and finally a binder with various conversion formulas, dive charts from my deep-sea underwater construction days and calculations on chemical additions for commercial swimming pools. In the Q there is a large tool box with rags, synthetic brake fluid, transmission fluid, synthetic motor oil, one-quarter, three-eighths and half-inch drive ratchets with swivels and extensions, various sockets and a multitude of 10mm sockets and wrenches and various other wrenches and adjustable wrenches, an FSM in it's pretty box, the factory emergency jack, a gallon of Seattle's best tap water (We probably have the best tap water in the country if not Alaska, little to no need for distillation for radiator use with hardness of under 100ppm, PH 6.5-7.0, chlorine under .2ppm and alkalinity of approx. 40), and a pry bar set. Things to come: Spare tire and jumper cables.

From the upper left, clockwise:> One gallon of distilled water. Changed often to drink in a pinch or fill the radiator.> Tool kit- 10mm, 12mm sockets and wrenches, 6mm hex bit, 1/4" drive ratchet, assorted small pliers, flashlight and a couple more small sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers not shown in the pic. Just the basics but I could pull a plenum on the side of the road if need be.> Emergency roadside kit and first aid kit. I haven't seen any one else mention one of these yet. Tsk Tsk.> Two 8' X 2" 2 ply lift straps. Each has a 6400 lb. capacity with a 5:1 safety factor on top of that. With the Q's "posi-traction" I could pull a truckload of rocket motors out of the mud with these if I had to.> A qt. of motor oil and a qt. of synthetic ATF.> Battery operated air compressor. This gets the most use.

I pulled everything to the center for the pic but it all stores along both sides and in the trunk net leaving the center of the trunk clear.

I'd go with a mini-cask of the freshest mead in the trunk instead. The "rape and pillage" roots in my largely Norse heritage are evident throughout, including the occasional idiotic stopping at green lights and going at reds. I can go for years without doing it, but it will happen again. Damn Norwegian blood...

A milk crate filled with assorted cleaning and detailing materials, enough microfiber cloths to stitch together a king sized bed sheet set and matching quilt, flashlight, Craftsman Mechanics Tool Set, 94 NICO ECU (always on hand for a quick swap whenever a confident punk is seeking his comeuppance), 3-5 bottles of Poland Spring, the Bible-sized 90-93 Q45 FSM, and a metal CD case.

I really should try to clean and organize it better. I'm planning on having my trunk redone in preparation for an audio system overhaul.
