Road trip?

I will be heading off to college in the fall semester. I live in Houston and will be attending the University of Texas at San Antonio. My parents due to lack of money refuse to give me a car because of high insurance rates. Because of this I have decided to buy my own car and I'm looking at purchasing a 89-94 fastback and maybe dropping a Ca18det into it sometime into the future when I get more cash.

My only question is how many of you guys drive your cars far distances. I will probably be taking my car from Houston-San Antonio and from San-Antonio-Austin quit often and do not want it dying on me out in the middle of no where. How reliable is your car? Is it daily driven? What's the farthest you've driven it? Does it require alot of maintenance? Do you feel comfortable driving it 200 miles?

I drive the hell out of my 89 240sx with 265k miles. Drove it 900 miles last week no problem. As long as you keep it up with basic maintenance it should be fine.

My last s13 was a piece of crap and it made to from Madison, WI to Buffalo, NY and back(700 miles each way), then down to Tucson, AZ(2000 miles) and down to Mexico and back(400 miles each way). It had about 145k when I sold it and was still running pretty strong, although I think it was burning some oil. I just drove my "new" s13 1400 miles to Oregon. I love these cars...

Hey man whats up? I'm in San Antonio.The only problem I had was overheating but I have the SR(notorious for getting hot) and a crappy radiator but thats it. You would be just fine with the KA going back and forth.Just make sure regular maintenance is kept up.

my car has 180000 miles on it and i took it home in september....mind you home is in mississippi and i was in sandiego. 24 hours and 1600 miles later only stoping for gas and food i was there. you should be able to make it from houston to san antonio with a well maintained vehicle. make sure the oils changed, make sure the gear oil/atf is topped off. check your tires, check your coolant and you should be good.

i dont have a swap but irregardless basic maintanence is basic maintanance..if its not kept up then any engine will loose reliability.
