road trip mileage update

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Arrived in Cal yesterday after my first road trip in my EX. I normally get between 19-20 MPG in the city and was hoping for 25mpg on the trip.

VERY happy to say it got 27+ on a 400 mile trip, averaging around 70-75 mph. WOO HOO!!

On the way back averaging 80 MPH the entire trip, it got closer to 25 mpg (still happy with that compared to the max of 20 mpg I got in the 4cyl RDX on the same trip)
70-ish seems like a nice sweet spot for HWY MPG... I wonder what it would do if I was just averaging 65?

Getting ready for my yearly trek across the desert and hoping for 27MPG again.
The only thing different than my last trip is that I now have the synthetic diff fluid. Doubt that will make any difference, but still looking forward to the drive!

We just did another 3,000 mile road trip - can't say enough good about the car! Our mileage averaged 25.6 on the long Interstate stretches at 80+ mph, 23.5 while touring in mountainous areas with some stop-and-go urban horrors between DC and NYC. Not bad for AWD ! The return trip was the weekend after Memorial Day, so apparently virtually all the HP were taking days off after working overtime the previous week. Made for very expeditious travel. Interestingly, across Ohio we encountered fake K-Band radar traps every 10 or so miles, mounted on poles with a solar cell. The two actual HP cars we saw were using Ka band radar....

That's some downright decent gas mileage, XIS. I started feeling bad for myself...that is until I remembered your's is RWD--not AWD. At least amongst AWD cars/crossovers, it really does seem like 24-25 MPG is really about the most one can hope for on average...especially at sustained speeds over 65 anyway.

Thanks. I am pretty happy with that too considering the power it has and the MPH. I changed my oil last week and my differential fluid to synthetic earlier in the year, so it shouldn't be any worse this time!
If I could keep it at 65, I bet I could get it up to 28 or so, but don't think it is worth babying it for 400 miles!

this year's results on my 400 mile trip:

26.1 from Phx to San Diego @ 80 MPH average ...
24.2 from San Diego to Phx @ 85 MPH average

Still happy with the results.

Why do I always drive faster on the way home??

I like updating this thread to see my historical MPG and speeds! Looks like I skipped 2015 & 2016, but I know my MPG was slightly declining each time. On this trip, I had recently given her a tune up for the first time (88K miles)..Cleaned both throttle bodies, MAF sensors, oil change (always synthetic), OEM spark plugs and cleaned/re-oiled the K&N's....oh, even ran a bottle of injector cleaner through it the week earlier.

I am back to 26-27 MPG from Phx to SD averaging about 75-80 MPH
On the way back, I got about 24 MPG averaging 85-90 MPH.
