hey all,

im planning a road trip from Canada, as far south as Myrtle Beach for the summer vacation. I would like to take the Skyline, but I have some concerns. I'll introduce you to my ride briefly for those who don't know it already:

And the engine bay:

The motor is rebuilt. All the suspension parts and steering parts are aftermarket. Alignment was just done 2 weeks ago. Running 2860-5's at less than 1 bar. Stock injectors so boost is super low right now, only about 7psi.

Car has not yet been re-tuned, but has no issues really to be concerned about for a long drive. But here's my questions:

1) What kind of gas is gonna be available in the USA? What's the closest thing to petro-94?
2) Do I need to be concerned about gas with lead in it? Do they still do that in the US? How about ethanol in the gas?

3) Do you think it'll be risky since these cars are super un-common in the USA? like in terms of safety of being car-jacked, or my ride being stolen.

4) I don't yet have a stereo installed, and I'm doing this trip with the GF. Long hours of driving + GF + no radio, ugh. Not sure if I should spring for a cheap one quick before going? lol

5) What should I be prepared for at the border crossing?

Thanks guys all input appreciated!!!

I don't know if border officials are going to be suspect of you crossing over with a GT-R...provided they know what it is or any of the laws concerning it...but I would make sure you keep all travel documents with you. I.E. hotel reservations, addresses of places/people you're staying with.

As for safety...a lot of people in the tuning world know the GT-R, and there is a chance you might get jacked...albeit a slim one. I would spring for some kind of car security as well as a cheap CD player or the like for tunes.

Don't know if you have ever done long distance in an R32 GT-R, but those seats get really uncomfortable after several hours. The R32 GT-R seat I had in my Laurel a few years back was nice for short drives, but anything over 3-4 hours got really tiring. The R33 GT-R seats are better, but not by much.

If you have different seats in it, then don't worry to much, but be prepared.

As for gas, I know some stations near where I used to live in Illinois did have 93oct gas, but I don't know about now or even other places as I now live in Japan.

Good luck and enjoy the drive!

I think most of the gas stations across the country have 93 octane. And no the US does not put lead in their gas anymore idk about ethanol though...

1) There will generally be 92-93 octane avaialable all the way to SC
2) You don't need to worry about the gas you use in your Skyline, I use pump gas all the time here
3) There is NO risk for you at all. I have buddies that come down here all the time from Quebec in their RHD cars and Skylines
4) Grab a cheap-o stereo for the drive, best thing you can do is grab one that's got a USB port so you can run off your iPod or iPhone like I do.
5) Border crossing is simple for you, just have valid papers and insurance all in your name along with your passport and you'll be good to go. They will scan your passport to see if you are flagged so if you have had any previous legal issues they'd ban you from coming over, but other then that you'll be good to go.

When/if you manage to come to Myrtle Beach, SC give me a shout and I'll try to get a little SC/NC mini Skyline meet together :D I'm about 2 hours out from Myrtle and go there quite often with the Skylines.

I drive a skyline daily here in the states , it does get tons of attention I recommend bringing a car cover. Everyday any where I park "I try to blend". I've had people kick an crack my bumpers an alot of pictures taken. but if you park at a hotel or anything. not saying its not safe but the car is a rough thing to keep nice with all the haters. gas isnt a problem jus dont get bp,kangaroo, or phillips 66. There gas seems to suck but I always run Shell. If you have any other questions jus hit me up since i drive on in the states I could answer alot of your q's.
