I have seen a lot of posts (complaints) about road noise coming from the rear area of the Rogue, especially when the roads are wet or any condition where water or dirt is being thrown off the rear tires into the wheel wells.

I have closed the rear cargo cover and covered the rear vents with no effects.

The noise is coming from the body "chamber" formed by the rear wheel well and the body "inner" sheetmetal.

You can see (hear) this easily by opening a rear door and tapping the inner well with your fingers and the noise comes right through into the rear area.

Quieter cars have wheel well liners that hang suspended in the wells and absorb the water and grit hitting them without passing the noise through to the body.

The Rogue has no such liners, and although it has a pretty thick undercoating in the wheel wells, it is nowhere near as effective as liners.

So, what is the answer? Getting more indercoating sprayed in? Try and retrofit a liner in the rear? Turn up the stereo (that's what I do now)?

I plan on getting some old wheel well liners off of a junk car with about the right radius, cutting them to fit, and installing them with some adhesive foam into the rear wheel wells. I'll bet the rear road noise will disappear.

I love my Rogue enough to go through the trouble.

Line the wheel wells from the inside (remove the interior trim pieces first) with Dynamat. Noise was a common complaint with the 2002-2006 Altima's as well and it was a common fix. Of course, your results may vary.

I still believe the tires are a factor here as well. I can't stand the OEM Continental's.

I need to throw this out there for the record. By most accounts the Rogue is very quiet, in the C&D SUV shootout it was the quietest. What is being discussed here is related to noise during wet roads or similar condtions as Superdave 54 noted. It is a none issue under a lot of condtions. So far I have not noticed this issue. Now my 03 CRV that baby had road noise all the time.

And for the ppl who have noticed the noise, what model of tire does your Rogue have?

I have experienced the same level of noise with the stock Continentals and the Toyo siped snow tires.

I agree with you Ticmxman, under favorable conditions, I usually don't hear much, but if there is fresh salt or gravel on the roads and all I hear is the ping, ping, ping, ping, ping coming from the back or when the winds are high and there's this sound in the cabin that makes me think one of my windows are open (but they're all shut tight)... it makes me crazy! LOL!

I would apply Dynamatt extreme to the inside of the fender wells and see if that cured the problem, if this issue bugged me.

I just drove my Rogue today for only the second time while the streets were wet. I heard this noise you are describing very loud and clear and it was so bad that I thought the rear hatch was open. It sounded like someone was pooring water onto the street with me standing outside or like I had my Rogue under a waterfall. I didn't particularly notice this earlier this morning while it was raining but I heard it at lunch time after the roads were thorougly soaked and the rain had stopped. I have the Continental tires on mine but I haven't yet tested the pressure in them to see if it has been over done (some ppl said 44psi was put in 35psi tires). I am willing to experiment a bit within reason but this was pretty outrageus and if I have to remove some fenders or plastic pieces or any such thing then it isn't happening. What advice can you guys give and should I/can I make the dealer do something about it? Thanks.

Live with it . I have noticed there is more noise in the rear especially going over gravel. Its sound hollow. However, this is one of those issues thats typical of the design. Not much you can do about it. When I am in the mood I may try the Dynamat or similar products on the inside of the wheelwells.

I too heard this noise when driving on wet roads this weekend. I actually pulled over and checked the rear hatch. My Rogue came with Dunlop tires so I don't think that it is the tires that make a difference.

I'm with paulvanharte on this one. It's largely due to the design. The open cargo area of any hatchback, SUV, or even a sedan with the rear seats folded tends to amplify road noise. I've noticed this with many vehicles I've driven... Pathfinder, Altima (with rear seats folded), 240SX, Ford Escort wagon...

Honestly, it's not bad and I've had far worse.

What is it about '07+ Altimas that they DON'T have this problem all of a sudden? If they found this problem and fixed it, why wouldn't they take that into consideration on new designs? That's what makes me mad and makes me think we should chalk this one up there with the paint stripping on the doors and the inaccurate fuel gauge (both mentioned in this forum as problems Nissan is investigating). I wouldn't complain about it otherwise.

EDIT: anybody know if the Murano suffers/suffered from this?

Just traded a Murano in for a Rogue. While I like the Rogue, it sounds like a tin can in the rain and where there is salt on the road. The Murano does not do this at all.
