second skin seems to work great..i am going to do 3m rubberized spray in the wheel wells and trunk area next week weather pendingbig_c wrote:Just took a drive in my 08 SL AWD...in rain, it sounds like the rear hatch is totally open...very loud.
Does anyone have any solutions or write ups on soundproofing the rear? Id like to get some carpet padding or something and cover the spare tire area with it, I wonder if that would help.
Please do not use Peel n Seal. It' does minimal deadening and smells like tar. It's not very useful for sound deadening.big_c wrote:Any write ups on how to remove the rear cargo plastic areas? I think I am going to apply the sound deadening spray and possibly the fatmat type insulation that can be found at home depot, appears to be similar
boss, rogues dont even have the plastic wheelwell liner / splash guard in the rear. thats 95% of the problem :-/AZhitman wrote:A few thoughts, having done sound deadening on several cars:
1) Search posts by "GT mat" here on NICO. Great product, cheaper than the competition, blocks heat as well, and they offer NICO folks a good discount.
2) Wheelwells are the primary issue. Remove the plastic wheelwell liner, clean it, and coat the outside of it with 2-3 coats of spray-on bedliner, reinstall. Works great.
NOTE - By "outside", I mean the part of the liner that you DON'T see when you look in the wheelwell.
3) Sound deadening the rear hatch area will help as well. Doing the interior of the doors is a good call too, but more work.
4) Factory Service Manual is here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Rogue/2008/
5) The stuff at Home Depot is NOT proper sound deadening. It does not dampen resonance, and you'll put in a lot of work for minimal results. Do it right with a product that adheres to the sheet metal and absorbs resonance, muffles sound, and insulates from heat and cold.
lmfao. that actually made me chuckle lolAZhitman wrote:Ooof. My bad.
WELL THEY NEED THEM THEN!
Better order some more.I used 18 sf on the spare tire area alone.big_c wrote:GT Mat rocks, very friendly and shipped me the 10 sq ft today. Ill be installing this mainly over the wheel wells and spare tire are if there is enough left. Anything I miss, I will cover with undercoating spray. Hopefully this quiets the hatch area quite a bit. I will do a write up when the material arrives.
Damn Nissan their cost cutting...no wheel well plastic and no sound deadening. Hope the $22 they saved was worth it!!!
Although I suspect this was a move to further distinguish the rogue from murano...its all a balance of sales price, build quality, and features.
That and the crappy oem tires,u can lit. take a quarter and tap the rear fender liner and hear it churping inside..sad but true. the muranos dont have road noise issues at allImStricken wrote:boss, rogues dont even have the plastic wheelwell liner / splash guard in the rear. thats 95% of the problem :-/AZhitman wrote:A few thoughts, having done sound deadening on several cars:

i just helped to wrap up a trunk and doors on a ek civic...holly cow its like a lincoln town car in here now.Wish i had a heated garage Redtress wrote:Is there anything a non mechanical person can do? Aside from turning up the radio..lol?

You don't need to be "mechanical" to apply sound deadening. It's a good opportunity to get more familiar with your car, and get the self-satisfaction of doing it yourself!Redtress wrote:The second day I had my Rogue, my son commented on the noise. Check out some reviews posted to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/GTMAT-Automotive- ... DescendingJake43 wrote:I'm curious if any one has had any luck with the GTMat? I am looking to minimize the high level of noise coming from the hatch area while raining/wet roads (I live in the PNW, so the roads are wet 300 days a year), and wheel well noise.
