LOL.. ok, the history of the name Dr. Feelgood....
I went to Morehouse College for undergrad, this is an all male Historically Black College in Atlanta Georhia... we have a number of famous alumni (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Samuel Jackson, David Satcher (US Surgeon General), and Spike Lee being just a few of them)
Now, being that the school is all male, its like a giant fraternity, as such, we have a full week of hazing called freshmen orientation week. During Freshmen Orientation week, we are force to learn random facts about the school, and watch certain movies, one of them being School Daze. School Daze was written by and starred Spike Lee and was filmed on Morehouse's Campus. The film emphasized things that went on at HBCU's, one of which being the pledge process. In the movie, the main fraternity was a ficticious one called Gamma Phi Gamma (GPhiG) One of the "Big Brothers" or prophytes in this movie was a pre-medical student that called himself
"Big Brother Dr. Feelgood"... and he made the pledges refer to him like that when they greeted him.
After I pledged, and began to pledge other members of my fraternity, I made them refer to me as Big Brother Dr. Feelgood also, and it has kind of stuck every since!
And yes, I'm in the MD/PhD program at Johns Hopkins, finishing my PhD Thesis work at UCSD. When I finish training, I will both practice medicine and work in the area of Sickle Cell Disease Research.... Long soliloquy, I know, but you asked, so there you have it!
