Im used to my FWD's... Im getting a CA18DET for free out of a silvia because apparently it blew a conrod and the guy doesnt know how to repair it so he bought a new one. Where would you bolt the chain to on the engine and also, when the engine is dropped will the transmission fall or is it supported by a mount?

The transmission is bolted up by the transmission crossmember. It's 4 bolts that are right there in the open underneath.

my car came with engine lifts on it, so i just used them. I've seen a lot of people use the intake manifold and a bolt off of the exhaust manifold.

so what im asking is, if I were to unbolt the engine from the transmission and pull the engine back, the transmission will not move what so ever? Will it fall to the ground? That's what im trying to get at

It won't fall all the way to the ground, the mount will hold it up but it would be a good idea to put a jack or somthing under the front of the transmission so you don't put that much stress on the mount.

really teh easiest way is to loosen the engine motor mounts (not remove, just loosen a bit) then loosen the front subframe (have a jack under just in case)then ramove the transmission (driveshaft first)

it will be really easy to get the engine out after that, either lifting it, or just drop the rest of the subframe

that was the easiest way i had ever seen (you just need about a 3 foot extension +swivel to reach the top transmission bolts)

but if you dont have a lift, and rebuilding it anyway the way everyone else does it is fine (keep transmission attached and lift out as one unit

I used the lift bracket that is right above the PS pump and I bolted the chain on the hoist to the back of the head here--

I would have used the lift bracket but the problem is, there was none on this car.
