just noticed it this morning... ( work 4-noon) and when i pulled out of my driveway i noticed a weird noise so i looked under my car and saw that the boot was not only ripped but completely ripped in half (no grease in there at all just some power steering fluid) and its making alot of noises. (probably drove with no grease for 1k+ miles im assuming.

my question is is it nesessary to get a whole new axle or just replacing the boot will be fine... (dont know what aftermarket axle it is)

With a torn boot when you drive in the rain the road grime/dust/sand/whatnot sticks to the grease and makes like a really bad grinding compound inside the axle. If you change the boot with new grease, its still in there unless you disassemble and clean it. Disassemble and clean is actually more work than replacement.

CV axles are cheap, if you put them in yourself.

(I work at midas)

The boot is a little cheaper than the whole thing. And the whole thing is quite a lot easier to replace than just the boot.My .02

I would just get a new or rebuilt axle from an auto parts store. Nissan axles are rediculously priced and to remove the axle just to repair the boot and reinstall an axle with a joint that may be compromised. Buy the axle from a parts store and install. Alot less of a hassle, especially if you put that axle back in just to have the joint go bad and have to replace it anyway.
