i'm a little late on this, but about 2 weeks ago i had jury duty and on the way back from lunch i was traveling on franklin about to turn left onto walnut in Lancaster city. i approached the light and saw another car come the opposite direction. the light turned yellow so i began to slow down as the other car slowed as well. since the other car was slowing to what looked like a stop i decided to make my turn before the light turned red. as i turned the other car sped back up, i'm assuming because the driver thought it was clear to go through the intersection. She most likely thought this because she was diving without her glasses which her license states she needs in order to drive. when i saw her speed back up, i stopped with my front end slightly over the yellow line and someone with good eyesight would have seen and had the time to slow down. she did not see however and clipped my front passenger side and pushed my car into a parked car. No one was seriously hurt but we were both taken to the hospital to be checked out. the officer issued me a citation stating that i was at fault for not yielding. obviously i disagree with this so i hired a lawyer and i'm fighting it. the insurance adjuster was able to come out the next day and the car was declared totaled. the pre accident value for the car was determined to be $18000 and we still owed $12000 on the loan so after paying off that loan and our deductible we got a check for $5500. i'm still dealing with insurance companies and such but we were able to purchase another car already. just some background on the old car, but it was a 2008 black on black mazda3 hatchback touring edition and auto. we purchased it new and had it for almost 2 years. we went with the used car lot at the mazda dealership this time around, mostly cuz the new mazdas look dumb. we managed to find a single owner 2007 mazda6 in cranberry red. 5 spd this time around and with the sport package; meaning v6, 5spd and stiffer springs. 17k miles (2k less then the 08 3 we had) and they wanted 19k. we talked them down to 18k and bought it that night. the car i really wanted sold from the time i was there on friday to when we came back on monday, which is too bad cuz it was a black on black mazdaspeed3 i'm very pleased with the 6 and love the power of the v6 and the 5 spd since the 3 was auto. the only thing missing on the car is an aux hookup and stock rear spoiler and i'm working on remedying both those problems.

i dont have pics of the 6 yet but heres the add from the dealer's website. it probably won't stay on the site for long since the car isnt there anymore thoughhttp://lancastertoyota.com/Vehicle.aspx?v=2387799

and finally onto the pics of the carnage

i'll keep this thread updated with how everything progresses

Poor Mazdar.

I'm one of the few who prefers the 6 to the 3, since its a more traditional sleek sedan shape with a more subtle interior.

after owning both i agree. the 6 has a sleeker roof line, nicer interior and its longer wheel base makes for a better ride. plus its nice that this one has the 3.0 over our 3's 2.3 and 5 spd compared to the auto

I hopefully in due time will be part of this club as well, I just need to stop being picky.

Sorry about the loss man but like Jesda, I also like the 6 better than the 3, plus the 5spd will give you some joy that I'm sure was missing in the auto 3.

Get some pics up once you pick her up...but please, don't let the front wheels get as dirty as the 3's were.

Shame shame shame.

That sucks. I've been in a similar situation...unfortunately if you wreck while making a left turn you're almost always going to be held at fault, since when turning left you're supposed to yield to everyone else.

As for the lady's vision...I can tell you from personal experience that poor vision does not affect that kind of thing. It only affects acuity--sharpness. She could still see your car fine. It's her driving that's at fault, not her vision. Don't know if that's better or worse, but I really don't think her glasses entered into it.

nope no subbie for me anytime soon. and yeah the wheels got really dirty which was sad but seeing as it was my wife's car primarily she had it most of the time but didnt have the time to wash it often.

as for the situation i understand its a hairy one, and i understand the precedent in the situation. i also realize that she wouldnt be completely blind without glasses and i know thats not the real reason she hit me, but i know with confidence that i'm not at fault so its worth fighting

Yikes, that sucks.

I definitely prefer the 3 over the 6, but I also really like little 5-door cars.

I like the new 3 a lot, aesthetically. Everyone says it's less communicative than the original, however. I've yet to drive one.

yeah i really like the 3 and miss mine. and my top choice for the next car was the mazdaspeed3 they had on the lot and i'm still bummed that it was gone already. but theres no 2 ways about it, from an unbiased standpoint the 6 is a higher quality car with a better ride. i still think the 3 hatches look great, but i hate the 3 sedans. its kinda fitting that we ended up getting a 6 though cuz one of my first cars was a 93 626
