You will be missed! Last night coming home from work around 5:15 was a tragic night. I was going the speed limit and noticed traffic slowing down. I slowed down and was going at 10mph (NO JOKE). Then within the last 5 minutes, I saw everyone stop suddenly. I pushed on my brakes, but wait!? Why is the car not stopping!? The brakes locked up and the car kept sliding! To let you all know we have been having lots of rain the past couple of nights and the conditions were really wet last night. To End a small story short, I believe my 240 vert is totaled unless told otherwise. I really loved the convertible, but if it is going to cost me more money to fix it than it is worth ($1400 on blue book). Then I am going to have to put her down.

Other problems that are broken: My lights will not go up and down anymore. I tried the handle where you make turn signals and it does not make them go up or down. As well the button to have the lights go up and down while the car is off, is not responding.

What I think needs to be fixed: I think the whole hood will have to be replaced as well as the front. The right side will have to have the dent taken out and a whole new paint job will have to happen. How much do you think that will run me? Parts + labor. I will be taking this to a shop.

Suggestions: If I cannot fix my 240 vert, is there any suggestions on other cars that I can buy. My budget is $5000 and I would like to get a newer car if possible, unless this one can be fixed for less than $1400. I don't see the point in fixing my car if its not worth more than $1400. Yes, even with the leather seats and the new carpet it is not worth very much.

Mileage on the car = 178,640.

I have had the car for almost four years. I was trying to make the vert last until I am out of college, but with so many repairs I don't think its worth it with the value of the vert already being so low. I have a job and I am going to college at the same time. Any suggestions?

Most of you know how hard it is to gets parts for these cars, so I am assuming that it will be a month or so before this car is back up and running if it costs me less than $1400. Last time I had repairs done on the car, they were $1400 for blown head gaskets. So pretty much I am seeing money go down the drain.

What is your thoughts. Please comment and let me know what cars I should get for $5000 and under. If any. NO VOLVO's and NO HONDA CIVIC's.

Glad you're ok!

Thats not bad damage at all. Maybe a few bends in the radiator support.

If you do end up totalling it, then buy it back from the insurance company and part it out.

With a $5000 dollar budget, you can probably purchase a nice 95+ 240 and boost it!

New front end body parts aren't that expensive. Just do some scouring of the part outs section. I would imagine they wouldn't run more than a few hundred or so. The biggest issue will be if your radiator core support was damaged. It's hard to tell with the hood down like that. If it's bent, it might be able to be straightened, it might not be. In low speed impacts, it's a pot shot if it suffered any damage. Is the driver side pop up totally damage free? I can tell that you'll probably need to replace the assembly on the passenger side, but the driver side one looks relatively unharmed.

The drivers side is unharmed. If it costs me more than $1400 I do not want to do it. The car is only worth $1400. Plus I would be paying for a shop to do it. I am not a shop guy so I have no clue how much work this will take.

Sucks. But should be repairable, if its too much for you, sell it for someone else to repair.

At least you arent hurt or anything. Buy it back from your insurance and part it out. Thats what I did with my s14 and made tons more, though they only offered me 200 dollars if they were to keep it lool.

My insurance coverage does not cover buying the car back. I am looking for parts right now, but replacing the hood is going to be impossible :(

right, this is why you find out what junkyard it goes to and give them the $200 they would normally get for scrap-metalling it...

and then you holler at your boy here and send him the carpet from the inside. :) and the sun visors if they are in good condition....

BUT on a serious note, glad you are okay, it's only a car, and while it may not seem easy to replace, I assure you it was better than the alternative (your limbs, life, livelyhood, etc?).

Update...Called the Nissan Parts Shop located in Bellevue, WA today. They said that it would cost $425 to replace the hood of my car and another $3202 for parts considering the worst option. So I sat on the computer mostly all day and was looking at cars on craigslist. After careful consideration, I blankly did not find a car that screamed out, "Matthew! Buy me!". I was very disappointed to say the least. The reason I love my 240 is because I can actually drive it. The engine is not to big for me and it is stylish enough to where I still get looks from people. I am thinking about repairing my Vert. I know now that it has become a part of my life, and I believe it is here to stay for the most part. Unless I find another car that screams out "Buy me!". For the most part I would have to drop $4k on a new car anyways. So I am thinking I might as well repair the vert. It already has the leather seats that I need and the top is still ok.

I will keep you updated on whether I am repairing it for sure or not.

arrrggg... I hate to see this. I know how much you love your car. Whatever you do, don't make a decision that you will regret later. If I'm in your shoes, I'll think someone wants to me do the silvia front end conversion. The damage is not that bad IMO. Anyway, good luck with everything.

Most expensive solution to your problem. And its all bolt on. Just a weekend with your buddies and your car will look good (until you get it painted to match the rest of the car) and then it will look great with paint. I am in college as well and own a vert and that is what I would do with out a doubt. No need to straighten out old body panels, or use excessive bondo.

Sorry to hear about the accident, I remember when you first started posting.

I'd do the Silvia conversion. Man, if I had a second vert I would definately try this. I like the shark nose pop up headlights but this would be cool to have on another vert. If only I had another vert...

Silvia front end without question would be the way to go here, for all reasons mentioned above. Keep the vert, Matthew!
