I've a question..I just pulled my stock pistons and compared it to some CP pistons I got..but they didnt seem too different..

I know people say KA24DE piston ringlands are very weak.. can anyone explain to me where?

here are some pictures..

Stock-CP-Arias

Stock v CP

Am I mistaking ringlands for something else?.. I thought they were between the rings?Btw.. I got the CP for cheap so I wanted to go with it on my first build, versus using the AMS kit.

Something else I forgot. You should associate the word 'cast' with 'brittle'. Or at least that's how I think about it..The KA's stock pistons are cast. They are sucky unless you got some serious tuning going on... 9/10 people blow the ringlands off.. All it takes is like, one good detonation, and it can weaken the ringlands to the point where if you start making some good power, it will finish them off..That's how I look at it.. Anyone else?

While forged parts are quite a bit stronger than the cast pistons that come with the KA, the stock pistons are not going to automatically blow. The stock pistons are plenty strong for moderate boost conditions. Any piston (forged or cast) subjected to sustained detonation is likely going to fail. That said, its likely that if a piston fails due to a very violent incident of detonation, there were probably signs of light detonation at other times. Most failures due to detonation are preventable if the user takes notice to the sounds of detonation. In other words, know what detonation sounds like at varying degrees. If you hear it, back off, and repair the problem before getting hard on the throttle again. Do not succumb to the urge to push the motor anyways.

yes indeed.i posted the same thing on KA-T.org,I wasn't aware the stock pistons were cast. i now know, lol.

should be done with my motor within a month.. How can i go about milling an already assembled head with my front cover for MLS gasket??

the head is completely assembled, does it matter if i get it milled down w/ the front cover?

yea, ckwik beat me too it but no matter whether it is a stock piston, or a forged one, detonation will kill either one. as to what extent, well that depends entirely on how much detonation occurs.............unfortunately we have no way of measuring that while driving the car (the knock sensor would be the closest thing) but still, no one can say this detonation was greater than this one.

tis tru that tuning will determine how much "safe" fun you get to have...............

What they said too. I have a hard time putting things into words that are understandable.
