I am seeing a lot of peeps asking this or similar to this question. I cant imagine why you would want to. (Actually, I CAN imagine why)The S15 has about 250 horsespowers and a 6 speed tranny. I assure you the ring & pinion size was chosen for a reason. Unless you have bunches of power, I can only see this making the car a real pig to accelerate. That being said, yes it can be done, have it professionaly installed unless you have the appropriate tools and knowledge.

Yes, but you'll notice you've wasted your time: They are 100% identical.

The difference? S15 = helical LSD, S13 = open diff.

3.96 vs 4.08. An irrelevant and meaningless difference.

isn't the S15 3.69?? yeah I will be putting out about ~425whp when finished that's why i'm choosing it..... if it's 3.96 then i won't bother changing it cause won't so any difference, but 3.69 then yeah I will chance it

You may be right...

In that case, you take your OEM ring gear, bolt it to the HLSD, reinstall the diff, and go drive.

Simple.

Is this true, can you really just bolt the ring on without changing the pinion?? I don't mind changing the pinion by that would be ideal. I wanna use the s13 differential housing and internals(except for the ring) but I'd like to have the 3.69:1 gearing instead of the 4.08:1.

You actually need to recheck gear settings even changing a different ring to the exact same diff housing, no two parts are machined the same. Points in space change so easy in rear ends it's not funny.

I've swapped say an LSD into a single trac and using same gears as before and still had to at least reshim the diff case to be right. The ring gear mounting plane can easily be in a different spot as compared to where the other previous center section was. The diff case regardless of the type was made to variable tolerances like any other part on the planet. Meaning the ring gear placement can vary from the ends of the case where bearings locate.

Thank you for your reply amc49. As for anyone searching this in the future, it seems you MIGHT be able to just switch the ring AND pinion into the diff. But as amc49 has stated, you will need to check the tolerances. Check the ring by putting ring marking on it and spin it seeing where the diff touches pinion. It should be in the middle.
