i have a friend who has a set of sportmax 17 XXR 962. no tires, but i want em. but i hope that my current rims, which i have no idea what they are but the tires on the front are 1254017 and rear is 2155017.

i really dunno much about rims, I'm sorry if i appear dumb, but my goal is to not spend money on tires on top of the rims. it can be expensive, especially since my tires are less than six months old. sportmax rim being these sizes, front Rim 17X7 offset is +38, and rear rim 17X9 offset is +35. can i just put em on or do i need a new set?

125 in front!? he musta been usin the pizza cutter drag wheels or something, those would be like for a 5" wide wheel! I hope you mean 215/40/17...

Either way, the rear tire will sit pretty flush with the lip of the wheel, if not stretch a little, while the fronts will have a slight buldge. The tires should stagger with the widths of the wheels. Also, the second number is an aspect ratio for the side walls. Meaning that although a 215/40 and 235/40 have the same numbers, the 235/40 will have a taller side wall because it is a wider tire. Thats a simple explination of tire sizes, hope it helps.

Personally, on those wheels, id probably run a 215/50/17 front and 235/45/17 rear

215's on a 9" would be a pretty good stretch.. for rears.. becareful when playing hard, as a stretched tire exposes the rims lips - ie: stretched tire drifting could mean scrubbed rim lips (the tire tucks as you push it). The 215 would do better on the front rim widths (7"). Also stretched tires get sidewall puctures easier (as sidewall is exposed to road debris). I'm running 225/40r18, but I'm running run-flat tires with super beefy sidewalls. I've had a few sidewall marks already, but I don't drive my car hard either. This link is to calculate tire dimensions http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html. Hope this helps some. Make sure to do some research on hub centric rings as well. Unless the rims are made for a Nissan, you will need these too (like $12-15 most everywhere). Here's a pic of mine on stock suspension[IMG][/IMG]

215 + 9" =

I'm running a 225/40 on my 8" and it's not even 90* (a little stretch). Tires stretched that far look dumb.

i really don't wanna stretch out tires, i want something that fits properly, without any problems. i am slowly building my car back from my drift days. i want something that looks nice and is my daily drivers.

if you dont want to stretch at all, you should probably run 225 front on a 7" wheel and 255 out back on a 9" wheel, should give you a slight bulge on both.

I'm waiting on my suspension. I don't personally love the look of mine, but I'm still sporting stock suspension. I had to do some number crunchin to make the 9 1/2 work on my car. I have about 5-7 mm to spare from the tire to strut. Once suspension comes in ... (D2 air suspension ) JUN flares go on, 25 mm spacers go on and hopefully everything will fit right..

TIMELSS hit it on the head for sizing. 225 work perfect on 7's and 255 work well on 9's. You'll have to learn a little about offset to get them to sit right. There are a bunch of posts about that as well. Hit up the SEARCH button and read away. Good luck.

i finally got em on. fit perfect id like the fronts to be lower but i don't car too much about the fronts looks all too much at the moment. i dunno if the pics show but fenders and bumper have drift damage. the fronts i think i need to get a spacer or maybe some washers for the little badge to put in the center of the rim. the hub i believe it is called, sticking out a bit where it wont allow me to put it on. I'm not sure of getting, I'm sure 3mm or more in front would more than give me room to put em on, but would it be that noticeable compared to the back sticking out. well anyway...ramble...fronts are 215/40/zr17 and the rears are 235/45/r17. hope the pics don't suck too bad. and i see now it's not really in any order since i missed taking a pic of one, but..

LOL thanks, i took caution on my pics that i took. but yeah i really cant complain much all that's really wrong with it is some cosmetics. my front fenders are bend to hell and my front bumper was hit by some redneck in a truck. his trailer hitch dented it in all i really did to cover it up was take a massive sticker of a band i like and covered it with that. til i get enough cash i'll buy a silvia front and get other dents you cant really see. some paint and the cars gonna be awesome. but i dunno i cant seem to find stock fenders at least for a decent price. and all the after market ones i dont really like the way the look with the vents and widebody.

slowly but surely the verts coming along.

i recently got the same wheels too, the front hub can be pop off so you can put the badge on..... but did you buy a set of hub-centric rings?

almost 4 months old.

on a side note - this car exemplifies why you DON'T put a noticeably taller tire in the back
