Hey,

I'm finally looking into getting rims and new tires for my 240, and I'm pretty sure I've found what I will get in a month or so (saving money with car payments is a bit*c*h). I'm thinking of ASA JS1's in the 16x7 size, along with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 tires all around in P205/55WR16 size/speed rating, etc. Any thoughts on either of these options? The tires most people have positive things to say (on TireRack), and though I like the wheels, I don't know if they're the best I can afford (looking to spend no more than $120/wheel, excluding shipping). I just like a simple 5 spoke design, nothing more, nothing less. :-) Any thoughts? Links to TireRack pages, along with pics of my car for you to image the wheels on below . . .

P.S: Note that winter performance isn't important, I still have tread left on what seem to be all season Cooper Cobras on stock alloys, and if need be, I'll get snow tires mounted on them. Just looking for a good all-around street tire/wheel combo . . .

Its your car, but I would run a 225-50-16. If you like the setup, get it. its your money and your car man.-chet

Just one thing to add to Exar-Kun's comment: I agree that you would be happier with a 225 tire. Also, that Goodyear is a 280 treadwear, kind of a hard compound. You may like a softer tire better. Check out Yokohama and Dunlop also

Thanks for the replies. I was just looking for comments, like the ones you guys gave . . . I would imagine the 225's would be better for launches, and better steering feel, but the Eagles don't seem to be made in that width. Oh, and Auto-X, the Eagles might be a little hard to you, but I'm coming from 440 Coopers ... 280 would be great! ;-)

I imagine 225's would fit fine on the rim (16x7)? Any idea what the maximum would be? Maybe 235? Thanks again for the replies, much appreciated . . .

Buddy Club wheels are a little out of my price range, as are most alternatives that I like to the ASA JS1's, so I'll probably just stick with those.

With regard to the tires, 225/40's and the 225/45's introduce a little too much error in the speedometer and odometer readings (about 10%). Probably a stupid reason not to go to those tires, but I just want those things to be accurate on the car. Could anyone tell me what the reasons would be for going to a wider tire on this car? I mean, if power were an issue, but the 205's grab quick enough on dry pavement (and I don't really drag race). Handling/road feel maybe?
