This question is pretty vague, and I will have to give a pretty vague answer.

Wheel size and more importantly, tire size is all a matter of preference for each driver. Some people like a wide wheel with a super stretched tire, and others like a good fitting tire or mild stretch. You just kinda have to try things out on your own. I'm running on S14 SE's on my S13 (16x6.5 +40) with a slightly bulging 205/55/16 on them, and I can drift better than people with better tires, wider tires, wider wheels, etc. Wheel and tire size affects your turn in, catch, exits.. if you like hard turn in, soft turn in, you have to toy with settings. I've seen a 195 tire stretched onto a 10 inch wheel. Ridiculous, but SUPER STIFF.

The popular thing wheel-wise right now, is light, cheap, wide, low offset. 5chicken FN01RC's fit the bill perfectly. Dirt cheap, (around 800 a set before shipping), up to 10 inches wide, up 10 18 inches tall, with offsets as low as +12.

Junkyard wheels are always popular, junkyard mesh.

If you are experienced enough to start seeing what kind of style you have or even better, whos style you are closest too, I might be able to give you a better idea of what you might want to try. Also, your motor will come into play when choosing a wheel size, and again more importantly, a tire size. If you have KA, don't expect to be making big smoky drifts with a 245 in the back. If you haev SR or RB, don't expect to have much control over your slides on a 195 tire. Though I do rather well with a 205... I still don't have the steadiness I would like.

My setup, I like a softer turn in. I have 17x9 +15 FN01RC's and I'm going to try to find a 225/45 or 225/40 to put on it. Mild stretch, but not so overly stiff that I'll push going into turns.

im planning on getting 16s in the fronts and 17s in the back or 16 cause tires are cheaper.

The rims i want don't have to look good, im all about performance, what i want are light but strong rims that can withstand drifting and daliy driving. i was thinking of the rota. and

im not too sure about the offset but the rims will have to be compatible with tein he cause i plan to get them in the future.

a 245 on a 9 ich wide wheel is agoing to slightly streched--but not too bad--the sidewall will flex enough to allow the car to slide without trying to grip. i would prefer a 16" wheel to drift with as it gives the better effectiev gear ratio. Going to a bigger wheel will have slightly the same effect as lowering the gear ratio (3.73 vs a 4.08--not the exact numbers--just an example) and the best way Ive foud to drift so far is to use a wide wheel with a small size. It gets the rev up faster. 18's are perfect for cars with BIG power that need the lower gearing to keep from having the tires go up in smoke with no hope of throttle modulation when using a smaller wheel. There are many factors as to which wheel you should choose--always the lightest of course--but the other factors are so many--that you question, like siad before, is too vague to give a really detailed answer.

Just disregard pretty much everything Projex just said. Wheel size has NOTHING WHATSOEVER, AT ALL TO DO WITH GEARING. It's the overall diameter including tire that matters. Using different size sidewalls is an easier way of changing ratios SLIGHTLY than putting new gears in your trans or rear end.

This was not explicitly said in his post, but the only thing he said that was close to correct had to do with weight. If you have a 16" wheel, and an 18" wheel, same type, the 16" will more than likely be lighter. This will allow you to spin up slightly faster. But it still has nothing to do with gear ratios.

Now, to answer your question. I'm not a fan of staggered setups at all. I like to be able to move wheels front to back whenever I please and such. If you need your wheel to be compatible with coilovers, you need to worry about offset. If you need to clear bigger brakes (z32, r32, etc), you need to worry about wheel backspacing.

i run 205/40/17's on my 17x8's. I like the way this setup feels better than any of my other combinations, very smooth and predictable breakaway point. but I can never find the size at the used tire shop. So i usually run 205/50 or 205/55/16's on a 7.5" wheel because i can get cheap used tires all day long for them.

205/40/17? isn't that a little short?

most people i know run a 215/45. you will have better luck finding those i think.

actually, if you're KA, might be an ok size, but i still know people running 215/45 on KA and they do good.

I'm running 205/50/15 on my stock SE rims and I consider them fairly predictable. I do have a slight problem sometimes but its not that often. Going with the Yoko ES100's. Love em!

well, the overall diameter is shorter, but i wanted the most stretch i could get on only an 8" wide wheel, so thats what i went with, i really like how they feel though. i also run 195/55/15 on 7" wide and 205/50/16 on 7.5 which are both shorter in overall diameter than stock sizes.

pic is with the 205/40/17's in back and 205/50/16's front, doesnt match that well but it gets the job done, thats all i care about.
