i have a 1991 240sx and im getting ready to do a 5 lug swap. i have some 5zigen fno1rc lined up to buy but a bit worried about the offset. its 17x9 all around and +35 in the rear. do you think this will rub the springs? just want to see what all you guys have on your s13's 4lug or 5lug doesnt matter just want to get an idea. i have stock suspension. thanks

Do you know where you can get those? I have been looking for a while I can't seem to find any. I believe they were a custom limited production.

they were a custom order by SPL, that's where the web link is to....

here's a little more help http://www.splparts.com/Parts/...t.htm

they have black/polished for $219 each. i hope the deal your friend is giving you is cheaper than 4 wheels from SPL because the five lug upgrade offers no other value.

lol, I am inept at the www somtimes. I couldn't find their order page. It says that they require fender rolling for the S13, but on that first link, where it shows an S13, does it have the fenders rolled? I assume that is just so they will look right and not fit/won't fit thing. But I was thinking of getting the 17x9s for the back and the 17x8 for the front, will that be about right if the 9s have a +20 and the 8s have a +35? (I suck at offsets too.) Thanks!

fender rolling is when you slightly bend the edge of the fender around the wheel outward so it makes the wheel wells look a little wider, so bigger tires don't stick out. Here is a pic, the edge on that fender would have been flush with the car before, like a stock S13s.

Are you thinking of getting coilovers in the near future because the 17x9 with 35 offset I think might not fit

17x9 +20 or less is nessicary to clear coilovers in the front.

Just do +20 or +15 ( depending on 4H or 5H) all the way around... unless your gonna cry yourself to sleep since you wont be able to run 0 camber.

what do you mean by alright?

it should clear any coilover/shock except for Zeals... If you want to be safe just get the 17x8 +25s.

and for the record, fender rolling takes 10 minutes with a jackhandle. fender pulling takes a good deal of time with a fender roller.

17x9+20 needs a roll, not a pull.

at myself.

Yes, I admit. I didn't realize they were different. Anyone got a good site/info on what fender roll is then, I think I basically get what it is now, but I would like to know how it is done.

Just so I get this totally clear before I decide anything: 17x9 +20 all around with 235/40-17 tires will fit and clear everything on an S13 and coilovers and Z32 brakes (and look pretty flush) with only minor fender adjustments (if any) with a jack and/or hammer.

How about a 17x8 +35 with whatever tires are best for that setup (maybe 215/45-17)?

Thanks for those who are slow.

A fender roll is just taking the lip of the fender and making it flat up against the inside of the fender. its done in the same way as a pull (or with a Jackhandle or Hammer or Vise grips if you hate your paint) except you dont reshape the way the fender looks (ie you dont make it wider).

A 17x9 +20 only needs a roll and to take out the fender liner. maybe a slight hammering of the front fender tub... if your going really low you'll need to hammer the seams in the fender roll flat.

17x8 +35 doesnt need anything...

now that we have the rim sizing and fender rolling all figure out can someone suggest some good wide tires for 8 inch rims. what the biggest size you could put on an 8 inch rim?

See SR Smith's setup in his 15-18" thread. He ran 17x8 +35mm with 215/45.

If you want wider tires, you could try a 225/40 or 225/45. I honestly have no idea what those sizes do to clearance or overall diameter, but use the 215/45 as 'stock' and use that calculator link in the sticky to compare.

I'm pretty convinced 215/45 is a great size for 17x8, and that size is available in tons of different tires (Kumho 712 and MX, AVS ES100, Falken ST115, etc)

The widest I have personally seen is 265 and it bulged quite a bit. I am sure you can fit a wider tire but I don't know if there will be some sort of bead separation when going with an extremely wider tire than what is reccommended for the rim width
