The rims i ordered came with Wanli tires instead of Yokohama.

Does anyone know anything abou these? They look identical to the Yoko AVS that I thought i was getting.. Did i get ripped off?

Tell us about the deal. Where'd you order from and who told you what tire you were getting? Were you told what tire you were getting? Another internet transaction gone bad?

The Wanli is an entry level tire on any chart. It's a knock-off of the styling of the Yokohama tire. Where TireRack retails the Yok for $132 in 215/45-17, the Wanli retails locally for under $100.

I got them paired to a set of 5zigen wheels.. The fronts are 215/45R17 and the rears are 235/40r18. I got the fronts for about 65 and the rears for 110.

The deal was made verbaly at a carshow.. The deal WAS for Yoks.

Then you need to get Yokohamas from whomever the seller was.

Wanli are made primarily in Panyu, China by the South China Tire & Rubber Co.

Go find one of your Wanli and read the entire set of numbers and letters that follow the "DOT" branding on the tire and report back here, and I'll tell you the plant code. It's most likely plant code "4H" which designates the SCT&R plant at Panyu.

So Wanli isnt a child company of Yok? This makes me so angry.

I've bought from TireRack many times. My last order was through Grant. While there was a small error in the order, which I also goofed on as well so it made no real relevance, Grant took care of it anyways. Their prices are very competetive. Certainly, you might be able to find a better price here and there, but you may lose some of the dependebility. Thses kinds of things mattered less to me when I was younger, but as I get older, I don't mind paying a little more for assurance. And considering when I checked prices, I found few that were better than Tire Rack's.

I am not doubting the quality of tirerack.com. If it wasnt for their suppor this section of the fourm wouldnt exist for me to ask my questions. I did look there several times for rims i liked, but found none. These rims came with tires, mounted balanced & shipped for free. The tires arent Yoks, but the price per tire is still less than i am seeing other places.

You can all rest assured that i will be visiting tirerack in a few weeks for some drag radials to go on my old rims.

Tire Rack caters to a much larger audience than just import tuners. The brands they choose to carry needs to be profitable on that level. They likley get great pricing from the manufacturers due to the volume of sales they make. I'd speculate it just might not be profitable enough. Or there might be a lot of competition for a minimal profit if others cane be very competetive on pricing for the same wheels. Tire Rack doesn't carry Volk Wheels either.

sheesh. Ive seen fn01rcs onmustangs camaros, etc. To not carry a wheel due to its mainstream market isnt the way to keep making money. Regardless of the current market of the wheel, expanding it is the way to make yourself money. For comanies catering to mainstream car owners rather than just tuners, they are costing themselves money. It doesnt costs much to stock a few stest fo rims. Manufaturers know ths, and are willing to allow companies to stock items on a net30 credit period. thats how we do things where I work.

This thread is going everywhere. All he wanted to know is if he got screwed. Yes, you did... prison style. This is classic bull****. People try to screw you and hope you either don't notice or are too lazy to do something. I've never heard of anything more ridiculous than someone buying Yoks and getting Wanli. Tell them you want the right tires mounted and balanced for free or get a refund. THats the only way people like this will stop. Don't ***** foot around him, tell him straight up "I want what I bought or I want a complete refund."

i already looked into this pretty thorougly. Apparently the booth had a sign up that said "Yokohama Avs Style" This sign was taped to the wanli tires, which have that unmistakeable yokohama avs sport tread pattern. Silly me for mis reading. Clearly this is a shady shady thing to do, but the bottom line is that they did have an 8x10 lime green sign that said "STYLE" not "SPORT" as I had thought. Because of this, the carshow wont back me up. You can rest assured i will be at the carshow next year, and i will tell anyone that will listen about how these people do business.

On a side note, the wanli REALLY arent bad! True they are not yokohama tires, but they are grippy, quiet and supprisingly stable in the rain. I'm angry at this business for their obvious strategy of bait-n-switch, but i am very happy with the tires.
