Alright, well i have a problem that i would like all of your opinions on. I am thinking of getting rims for my '99 QX4 but i am not really sure what to do. I'm sure i can get the newer QX4 rims for not a bad price, but i also would like to get aftermarket rims. The problem with getting aftermarket rims is mainly my parents, they will kill me if they found out how much i would be spending on them. I mean i found a rim and tire package for as low as $1699 and i liked the rims. I would really love the Giovanna "attack" rims (i thinks those were the ones), but they cost over $2,000 i can't remember the exact price. I saw them on a silver pathfinder and i just fell in love with them. But i have also heard of the spedometer will be off, the miles will rack up faster and stuff like that. I am so confused!!! What are some of your suggestions. Keep in mind that i am a full time student, and don't have much time for work. I have enough money saved to get the Giovanna rims now, but that would totally wipe me out! Plus like i said my parents would flip!! Sorry for the long post but i really need your help!!

It's really hard to read when you post in purple, at least with the forum theme I'm using; it has a black background.

Anyways, bigger rims turn slower, so your speedo would read slower, and the mileage would be less.

You already have a nice vehicle. I would say hold off on rims for now. There are much better things you can spend your money on, especially for something that, at least in your case, is purely cosmetic.

Sorry about the purple, my backround is grey. Well i wasn't sure of the specifics of the spedometer and miles and stuff i knew it was something. I am in school right now, i didn't really take time to remember what it was i don't feel like getting in trouble. But what other things do you think i could spend my money on that is better than rims...

I have to show you all this picture so you can see what i'm talking about, I can't seem to get just the picture up so i provided the link. i saw these rims on the nissanx forum, and i thought they looked nice, but like i said they are expensive. I am unsure what else there really is to do to my car, everything i try to find only fits the pathfinder and not my car. So unless any body can suggest something else i really don't have many options. http://www-new.nissanx.com/f0rums/threa ... 74918f72a2

Are you sure about that?

I always thought it was the size of the wheel and tire combined.

Like stock being a 205/55/15 and switching to a 205/50/16 would be close but a 205/55/16 would make the rear "gear" taller and thus you would be going faster than your speedometer says.

Yeah, if the overall diameter of the wheel and tire combo is about the same, it wouldn't make much of a difference. But if the overall diameter is greater, it would turn slower for a given speed than a smaller diameter. I should have thought about that.

When I said your speedo would read slower, I meant you would be going faster than what the speedo says. So I guess we are in agreement :)

Ryan is correct. As long as you retain the proper overall wheel/tire diameter, rim size is irrelevant (with the exception of added weight).

Check our advertiser (Tirerack.com) for a better deal on the rims and tires.

I don't know. I was talking about in general.

I think we're coming from totally different mentalities. I guess this diversity is one of the things that makes the NICO general forum interesting. Youre obviously into having an SUV and making it look good, so maybe there isn't anything better to spend your money on than rims. Though, I really like a good sound system.

I like cars and driving on twisty roads, so I would probably put the $2000 into suspension, brake or engine upgrades. I do care somewhat about the looks of the car, but good performance comes first.

Well i already have a stereo that is almost completed, it's not going to cost much more to finish it. And as for curvy roads i really don't personally like them. I was involved in an accident going around a turn (i was the passanger) due to a cat running across the road and stupid sand from a construction site. So being a girl and being through that situation with the airbags in my face and landing in a ditch (which i didn't fully get over yet) i really don't care for those roads . So suspension is not really a big factor with me! But I was looking into a supercharger for my car, which i found out last month or so that it is no longer in production!

QX4's for cruzin' anyway...

The tire rack has this cool thing where you can put any wheels on your ride you want... (they don't have the 240 coupe' for me but they do have the QX4)

They only have 2 wheels listed tho. The first ones look good on there and are WAY cheeper than your 1,700 bucks...

I have already gone onto tire rack before, and i have seen the two rims that you are talking about. The thing is though that if i'm gonna get after market rims i'm gonna get 20's! If i'm going to get 17's which are an improvement from my stock 16's i would get the newer QX4 rims in like chrome or something.

You're a young woman? I apologize for what I said earlier; it was disrespectful. I need to watch my big mouth. I'm going to edit it out.

I'm not a big fan of Giovanna, then again, I don't really like chrome or 20"s, so... Anyway, while I think that there are better things to spend your money on, to each her/his own. They DO look better than most of the wheels I've seen from that company, which is a plus. Basically, I avoid making my parents mad because I always seem to get screwed then... maybe you could get a really nice tint and just keep the cash? You never know when you're going to need $...

my advice: keep your stockers. Why?

Aftermarket rims may not be as strong as the OEM ones.Tires cost more.Attract attention to your car (good or bad)Higher chance of gettting your car stolen.Less money to spend on more important things (like maintenence).stock rox :P

I would say the idea to find a decently priced set of newer QX4 rims is the way to go. That way they look better and you could have money left over.

the Giovanis look really neat, but are probably more likely to get jacked by some douch bag....

dont think I'd much care for chrome in a New York winter though

Jacob360, yes i am a young woman, and i was going to say something, but i really didn't know what to say and i didn't feel like starting anything. And that is also the reason why i write in purple, so it is easier to identify that i am in fact a female. But as far as the rims go, i think that the stock ones are better because i will like some of you said, will still have money left over, and also my parents won't filp out. Also the other good point which i really didn't think of much for some reason is that i go to a university and the last thing i need is to walk out of class to see that my car was stolen! And mr1der i am planning on keeping my stock rims for these NY winters! But i have to say that i keep getting hung up on those giovanna rims, i dunno why! That is why i am having such a problem! But thanks for all the suggestions, i think i'm gonna go with stock 01+ QX4's.

You should have done this :slap

I deserve it. Again, I'm sorry. I'm just used to hanging out around guys when I'm talking about cars and stuff.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

Thanks RobDET! :D I liked the rims for how they looked, i'm not geting them to show them off my "bling bling" as you all are saying! Ha! But i think i'm gonna go with the newer style QX4's because they're cheaper and my parents won't get mad.

Yeah, you have to go with '01 QX4 rims. All the positives have already been stated. I prefer my rims to have the Infiniti emblem on them, so I know I will be keeping the stocks on. I thought about switching to some aftermarket stuff, but, it's too expensive and I think they just don't look as nice, at least imho.
