I'm installing my front coilovers but no matter what the ride height setting is, my tires rub on them. I can rid of the negative camber as in I have the camber up top as far over as it can go and theres still some negative camber. If i had no camber what so ever, my wheels would fit. My fronts are 18x8.5 with 225s on them +35 offset. Will these work? I know I'm doing something wrong unless you can ONLY run coilovers with negative camber.

Thats what i thought. Will 20mm spacers work up front? Would i have to pull my fenders? The tires are currently hitting the bottom of the spring when the ride height is dropped. I raise the ride height and the tires barely rub on the collars so i could raise the ride height like a mofo and it would clear. It would look like a** but it would work for now.

You don't need 20mm spacers for a wheel that narrow. A small slip-on spacer should be good enough. I'm talking 5mm to 7mm...

Your wheels are almost the same size as 350Z Anniversary wheels (18x8.5+33) and I know those fit with coilovers.

The knuckle is connected to the wheel and the strut, so changing camber (+ or -) via camber plate wouldn't hinder wheel clearance.

I just got 7mm from advance just to see how much I would need. 2 problems though. The wheels still rub and I still dont have enough hub to put my lugnuts on anyways.

I was thinking maybe these?

I can get the clearance I need without having to get longer studs.

You need to be at +28-+31 on a 8 inch wheel with most coils. 5-7mm spacers should be perfect

That's what I thought too. You know what I just thought about? The sway bar is still on and I only have one coilover on at the moment which in on the front driver side. The front driver side is in the air while the other side is still on the ground. Would that cause the wheel to be pulled into the coilover at all?

This is my first coilover install but as far as putting everything together I'm almost certain I'm doing it right other than what I just mentioned. I literally just tried 7mm and even with the collars to adjust the ride height all the way jacked up so the tire can't hit them, they still just touch the coilover itsefl anyways. In other words if i turn my front end into truck status they will fit WITH spacers given that the studs were longer.

Wait they are an 8.5 my 8's are a +31 and clear by about 2mm so +33 is the rub point on an 8. Your 8.5 is 12.7mm wide at +35 your back space is 5.6279, mine is 5.22 so you need about .41 inch, lets say half inch.... you need 12-15mm spacer.

This is all kinds of weird, man. 7mm is supposed to be the limit to how wide of a spacer you can run before needing extended studs or bolt-on spacers... I'm not sure what's wrong at this point to be honest.

Because we're on the subject of coilover clearance, what are optimal offsets for 9"-10" wheels? Is there a thread that I can look at?

I can tell you what you need on a 17 inch wheel which is maximum back space of 5.29inches (coil dependent) .

So a 9 inch wheel (228.6mm wides center is 114.3mm) 5.29 inch is 134.37mm 134.37-114.3 is 20.07mm... so the most you want for a 9 mm upfront is +20mm, a 10 in the front well

10 inch wheel 254mm (Center is 127mm) 137.37 - 127mm is 10.37 so +10mm on a 10 upfront

Well that was a damn helpful post. Thanks. As for spacers now I'm looking at the ones with the studs already on them. I get that you put them on your existing hub and all but the studs on the original hub are longer than the spacer. Do I just trim the original ones down so the wheel can sit flush on the spacer?

Is the wheels universal lug patterns?

My 17x9 +22 rubbed my coilovers in the front ever so slightly with a 245 tire. A 5mm spacer (and extended studs for peace of mind) left me with the little bit of clearance I needed.

All coilovers are different. Some allow for more backspace than others. It's something you can't really know until you get your own hands dirty with your own particular setup, unless you decided to copy someones else.

I'm searching out this same subject right now. Megan coilovers can let you cheat because you can buy their bracket extenders. But there are some brands that give you more backspace than others. S13's with Apexi coilovers can fit 17x10+18 up front apparently. Combined with the fact that they ride better than Megans and go decently low, I'm focused on researching them right now.

I'm about to order the spacer but would I be able to get away with 15mm in the rear too? Its a 9.5x18 with a 265 on it and 35 offset.
