put my foot down in 2nd and it sounded like i drove through a road construction zone spinning the tires! kinda like tons of large rocks slamming against the underside of the car, and not your average "sand against firewall" sound. let me tell you it was FANTASTIC! it was detonation the likes of which the world had never seen before! i even had a friend in the car to experience it with me. safcII knock meter jumped to near 300, which is cool because i didnt know it actually worked. anyway, i have adjusted the fuel curve to uber rich so it wont be happening again. i just thought i would share. im off to change the head gasket in our 1986 toyota van!

I guess engines can detonate for hours on end, but ultimately you'll end up with combustion chamber that looks something like this...

Its preignition that really fooks shyet up.

I know, it was some scary stuff! I've experienced preignition many times before but nothing like this, it was incredibly loud! I really hope I havnt damaged anything, as I'm sure it went really lean in all four. The CA is a real hoss though, I'm sure itll be fine.

...and that car got raped by detonation. Its surprising it didnt let go in some way after that much sustained abuse!

So all those tiny lil holes that look like a motor sucked in dirt... thats detonation? I remember seeing the back two pistons on my friends 300zx Z31 look like swiss cheese. The instructors at college told us that the pits were from debris. DOH! why didnt i relize its detonation!?

like I said, they can detonate for hours on end, but its preigntion that will leave rods hanging out of windowed blocks etc.

if you ever preignited, chances are that motor wouldnt be running.

I've knocked plenty of times before as well. When I was first tuning my car for pump gas I had to pull out way more timing than I though I would.

I like to explain it like this;

You can hear it knock plenty of times, but you'll probably only hear it auto-ignite once....

this didnt sound like typical detonation. it was at least 100db. the engine runs though, so i guess thats another win for the ca! also, did anyone check out the honda engine that dude posted pictures of on that link? ive never trusted open deck blocks but damn! kid musta done something crazy to manage that!

Reminds me of when I was racing a buddy on my old KA24E, I was still learning engine tuning and stuff but I had a 25dry shot of nitrous and my fuel pump fuse popped while spraying...The engine survived strangley but the spark plugs didn't... Thats when I learned go wet/direct-port or go home =)

speaking of nitrous, anyone running it on their CA? im considering it, mainly because i think its awesome and i cant be persuaded otherwise. direct port nitrous could be pretty fun on one of these things.

I'm planning on it. I just haven't done it yet. Too many projects...

I added some parts and made mine into a wetshot, was about 75hp. Unfortunatly I sold it to buy a new headgasket for my KA which then only survived 18miles before throwing a rod. So basically my $400 spent on the kit (over a total of 4months) was sold for 18miles of bored driving and $100 in the wallet.

I wish i still had it though, in theory wet or direct would be a great addition to the CA. I'm still learning applications of nitrous + turbo but it seems like spraying nitrous would be pretty much like putting a less laggy but bigger turbo on the car.

JWT uses a built in N20 controller to give the Z32 low end power until the big tubo's spool up. IDK why you wouldn't just keep spraying it.

The only drawback that I've heard of is that it's hard on the turbo and can shorten the life of it due to increased EGT's. I don't know if that's true or not though.

hm. its not like i plan on using it every day, i just want to be able to. could throw a little water/alcy injection in there too to really make it colorful in the combustion chamber. who knows, im too broke to do it right away, i dont even have a job.
