Hi guys,

I have an issue on my Altima (coupe 2008) with BOSE,

The speakers on the Right side sound lower than the Left side when the Balance RL is 0.

I tried with the speaker test (Chanel Check Diagnostics)* and all the Right side still sound lower
The music with stereo features sounds rare and uncomfortable, some songs with low level voice sound, other songs with low volumen on the the guitars for example... :frown:

*OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn ignition switch to the ACC position.
2. Turn the audio unit off.
3. While pressing the “AUDIO” button, turn the volume control dial
clockwise or counterclockwise 30 clicks or more. When the self diagnosis
mode is started, a short beep will be heard.

Initially, all display segments will be illuminated.

Channel Check Diagnostics
When all segments are illuminated, press the “TUNE” up switch to
enter channel check diagnostics. The self-diagnostic function will
then send a tone to each channel (FL, RL, RR, FR) for 1 second.

Someone have this issue too? and how can I fix it?

Thank you!

I wonder if they run on a separate amp and maybe the gain is not set correctly. Or, it is possible that the amp itself is messed up and you're getting amplified power to one side and just regular power to the other. I've had half of the channels stop working in an aftermarket amp before and it exhibited similar problems. Of course the head unit has a small amp in there too, so it could be that. To get a better idea of what you're working with, you can look to the FSM and see if the stereo system is outlined for you in there... I looked, it is, here is a link:
http://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual? ... ma/2008/av

You'll see the base stereo stuff first, then later is all the Bose system stuff. Okay, it's just one amp. Maybe simple. You might get to that amp and just reseat the plugs and see if that helps. You can check fuses, though I suspect those are fine. You're head unit or amp might have the issue. Bad wires maybe, though I'd expect staticky sort of cut outs or whatever, not just quiet.

Did your stereo work fine before? Has anything happened between then and now? I mean, like it rained really hard and water got into your trunk where the amp is or you keep coffee on the dash and spilled it onto your center console or you ran over the biggest bump and maybe shook some components loose or you got your oil changed and Jiffy Lube and they dropped a wrench in there and grounded some electronics (yeah, I'm just making stuff up). Anything?

+1 for using speaker test diagnostics! Very smart.

Thank you centralcoaster33,

The car have this issue since I bought the car (in may), the last owner had a subwoofer box on the trunk, I don't know if had another amplifier, but the Rear Right subwoofer sound like blown.

The last weekend I had time to remove and check the OEM BOSE amp and clean the connectors with electronic cleaner, but the issue stills present.

I think the last option is to clean the radio connectors, I will report in the next days haha

Thank you again!

Ah, bummer. I don't know the configuration of your stereo wires. But, is there a way to swap the left speaker wires with the right? If so, you could try it at the amp end. Like, if you swapped the amp input wires where they connect to the amp (the ones from the stereo to the amp) and the quiet side stayed the same, then the amp would be the issue and if the quiet shifted to the other side, the stereo sending the signal would be the issue. On an aftermarket system, this would be easy. Just swap left and right RCA plugs on the input side of the amp. With OEM stuff, you might have issues with the plugs being joined or keyed. Now that you've seen and cleaned some stuff up, do you think swapping wires is an option?

Swapping the wires it's difficult because are in the same connector, it's the OEM radio and OEM amp bose, with the rectangular connectors with a lot of wires

But that it's a good idea

Yeah, I thought they might be like that. I guess you could cut and splice, but that leaves a permanent mark on your wires.

Ooh, take a look at wire harness repair and disassembly threads (sorry I don't have any off the top of my head). Lot's of connectors have pins in them and the boxy connector itself can be taken apart to remove/ swap the pins. The pins are often held in by a little tab inside. It can take little tools like eyeglasses screwdrivers and maybe a straight pin (like a sewing needle) to get them apart. No wire cutting! So, that could be an option. You'd need to use the wire diagram to determine which pairs go to which channels so you'd know which pairs to swap.
