Im doing 2 basic engine things tomorrow, changing my plugs, and drain/refill my automatic trans fluid.

This is on a 01 QX4 3.5L 2wd

Spark plugs, Ive never seen plugs like this car has before, the plugs seem to have little black (packs/coils) ontop of them that are bolted down. When changing the plugs so I simply unbolt that 1 bolt and the unit will be free exposing the spark plug? The mahual also specifies I need to remove the throttle body for a plug, do I really need to? DOnt wanna mess with gaskets if i dont have to

Then I wanna drain/refil the trans fluid. I hear this sucker takes like 8.5L!!! All I wanna do is drain it via the plug on the bottom of the pan. And do you simply refill it through the dipstick hole? Seemed big enough.

Im just gonna drain as much as I can, refill. Go for a drive, drain and refill again in hopes to change most of the fluid.

Im just gonna use regular cheap Supertech Dexrom III transmission fluid thats fine right?

Any words of help Id appreciate!!!

Yup, the coils just come off and expose the plugs. I didn't have to move the throttle body, just did some creative maneuvering with my hands and voila. If you haven't already bought them I'd recommend NGK plugs.

The A/T has a capacity of 8.5L. You probably won't drain that much out, but don't buy any less than that just in case (or since you're flushing, 17L, I guess). Any reason you're doing a flush besides the fact that you love your Pathy?

Filling through the dipstick hole is a pain but that's the only way. I didn't have a funnel with a tip that small, so I fashioned one out of tinfoil and used that instead. As long as the fluid is Dexron III, it'll be good.

Ok cool, I was hoping those coil packs would come off easy, so you just undo the one bolt and its free and loose, no connectors or anything... Im gonna try to not remove the t/b. And yes, NGK for sure, suckers are expensive though!

As for why im doing the trans fluid, my cars got 110k on it, Ive had it for 10K, I dont know if its ever been done before and Im getting a slight whine in lower rpms, I was thinkin of adding some lucas oil up in there aswell, and 16ish L of ATF is only like $45 so meh might aswell

I dont think the plugs have ever been done either and I think it may smooth out acceleration and idle a bit

Just piece of mind maintenance I guess
