Hi again. My '93 stinks of raw gas when first started, bad enough that my neighbors have mentioned it. Once it warms us it goes away. No check engine lights and it otherwise runs great.
Ideas?

IIRC, the Pathfinders used a VG30e engine.
And if Nissan built them any way similar to the Maxima (also VG), then you might consider the exhaust studs.
Luckily, the Pathy's are RWD, so the engine is positioned for easier access to the exhaust manifolds.

Do you hear "tapping" when the engine is running? This would possibly be due to the broken studs clacking against each other.

Otherwise, maybe look into cracked fuel lines? However, I'm not sure if this is plausible as you claim that the smell goes away with temperature...

If they are the studs, here are 2 writes-ups that my fellow Maxima-niacs provided:

granted they're for a Maxima, but you can apply similar steps to the Pathy.

As for the fuel lines... I've never done them, but I've heard about them :) so I figure it's the same as
1. release fuel line pressure (unplug fuel pump fuse, run the engine until it dies and won't start up)
2. find the rubber fuel hoses
3. replace :)
Granted it might not be as simple as1-2-3, but generally it like that, right?
Might as well do the fuel filter too while the pressure is "off".
