You know I think its kinda our responsibility, not toatally, but in a way, to educate these ricers and not let them be dooped. I say this because out in Cali, ricers are a dime a dozen. They make me, a guy trying to inject a little true performance into my car, look bad. They drive around with half a body kit, cracked, broken, in ten different colors, and a horrible zing-zing muffler with stickers all over!...It makes the scene look bad... The other day I was at the local car wash and I saw a honda with a Nismo sticker on it! I walked over and told the guy "hey bro, thats not a sticker you want on your honda". He had no idea, he probably thought it addded ten horses, but thats beside the point. HE LOOKED STUPID. I just could not, would not, allow someone to represent an import, OR for that fact Nismo in such a way. So what do you guys think? There are some hardcore fellas in here and I tell ya, do you laugh or cry? Or poke fun? The ricers do nothing but push a market of crap performance products that end up defining the scene. Just walk into any Pepboys/Kragen/Autozone...its disgusting!

I stopped caring about ricers a long time ago. I still think they're fun to laugh at, but as far as educating goes, let them get their *** handed to them by a stock (looking *cough*mine*cough*) car and see what they do.

Hmm well I would reccomend just laughing at them I saw plent of stupid as monte carlo cars with 5 foot wings and F&F floor mats steering covers to just want to go shoot them.

But alas there is nothing you can do cept maybe blow them off the street with your performance.

However Im not gonna kill myself here I hope you guys dont mind. But performance isnt everything. Why do we buy lkuxury cars? For the luxury of course. So what if someone wants his car to look good and drive half way decent I appluad the fella who knows how to accomplish it right. Otherwise they need to get their head checked because they put on a kit and dont know how to change the oil in their car.

First things first learn how your car works and be able to fix it. THen go and buy a body kit if you so neccesitate.

Who cares. They only make the import cars look bad to people who don't know anything about cars, and who cares what they think anyway. Any true car enthusiast can tell the difference between someone who knows what they are doing and someone who just buys crap cuz their firends tell them too. As far as I'm concerned it dosn't realy matter what you drive, if you are a car enthusiast and intelligent you will get the respect of the proper people.

there are plenty of ricers that could smoke most of the cars on this forum too. careful who you laugh at =)

i know a 12 sec eclipse, tasteful mind you. but i hear about these "600 hp civics". is it even possible to get that much power out of the b16? i try to convince my friends, who are just getting into the car scene, about what rice is. they dont seem to listen, i cant get it through their head for things like 'magical 40hp computer chips' or 'that car has a turbo so it can beat anything that doesnt'. i just refuse to talk about cars with them now, heh

I dont like gaudy slow obnoxious cars (call them whatever you want).

Sound systems are good, loud systems are not. 1 high quality 10 inch sub in a small closed box and 4 quality speakers is all you need for crisp clear sound that is still loud enough to give you a headache after 5 minutes. Having to deal with some ghetto kid and his soundsystem in the car next to me is very annoying.

Aerodynamics are good, darth vader body kits are not. Im sure cheap body kit companies to plenty of wind tunnel testing to make cars handle better at speed, because I couldn't see why else someone would pay to make their car look like a peice of crap. Of course there are very nice body kits that compliment stock body lines, but most i see have excessive vents, wings, holes and flex, which im sure help improve the coefficient of drag to that of a freight train.

I dont really hate, I just dont understand. I dont understand how your goal could be to be as obnoxious as possible on the road. Thats really what it boils down to in my mind.

Actually, I have the OBX, because I can't afford C's, but if functionality counts so does OBX. Did I say I have a body kit??? Your right I do, on the way from Japan...Yea Bomex was the name...But I am not here to name drop, nor try and say I have cool ****. Just start an interesting thread...

Speaking of...Right on, I like see where people stand. I can see the total lack of compassion for ricers. I liked J-Specs comment the best, I wish I knew why they do what they do...

What do you guys think about the industry that supports it though?

I love the ricers. If Im feeling down and want to punish someone, I just look for Altezza lights. They are easy targets and good confidence/self-esteem builders. Go smoke one. Oh yeah, isn't nice to have an atmospheric BOV and vent it at them when their window are down? Oh man, its great.

well... i'm sure a ricer probably dunno their a ricer.... they probably think their cars are nice just like how we think our cars are nice.. its all personal preference... just because we dont like what we see because we're into a certain "style" and theirs is just plain ol' weird.... but i have to admit... i have seen some hondas (no offense i like hondas) that looks like they find whatever is on the CLEARANCE rack and slap them on their cars!

I hate it when stupid people come up to me and say in FOB "Man you get SR car go fast vroom vroom no problem!" Im like idiot the sr and ka are good engines.

Just because one is JDM doenst mean its gonna go way faster that is only true with Honda hhaha. You can drop a b18 into a civic. Which is only 2900 but a RB is like 5000 its a little more pricey for us Nissan owners.

They think money falls from the heavens and SRs are JDM tyght. whatever pisses me off cause all they know is that the engine has turbo. Not the basic theory behind engines. They dont even know how to change their alternator belts on their grand am. WHich I think is only one belt driven system.

when you point, smile, laugh, or even show them any attention you are giving them exactly what they want. they want to be noticed. they want to be recognized. they want to be the next brian spilner. they say "hey, i got noticed by the guy in the fast 240, i must have street cred now." please whenever you see a ricer just turn the other way and pretend like they arent even there.

whiterps13, heh, thats pretty much how i think about. they always drive by and rev their fart cannons in my face and blow their oil+exhaust fume mixture at me (hehe, cant get over the kids that do things to failing engines). i just try to look the other way.

i think rice has more to do with the intention of the owner, we buy parts to improve our cars and get the real preformance that they were made for out of them. they buy parts so they look cool (well, think they look cool). they just want to impress everyone. yeah, the red, black, AND blue civic dx with alloys on the back and hubcaps on the front makes me jealous =)

the industry is just trying to make a buck, i just got a jc whitney catalog in the mail and i cant find anything useful for my car in it, all body kits and lights. some of the guys at shops are responsible for some of the bumb info going around, like how important a chip is...but that probably goes back to making a buck as well =)

Rightly said, the industry is trying to make a buck, and its shops that push the stuff that don't help...I don't mind paying good money for parts that work and imporve my ride...But there is really crap out there...

He needs to stay away from the one in italics. A) I don't want my car getting tainted, B) it may be a little *too* quick for him (unless its the SOHC base).I may rag on my car alot, but I've also had alot of fun in it.

They're making their money, what do they care. Its just a competition between the "performance" (and I use that term loosely) companies to make more and more tasteless products.

The crummy thing is, the more ricers buy, the more "performance" companies promote and market their "crap". But who cares right? Let them make their dollar...So let me understand here, they market cheap crap for ricers, at cheap prices, and charge us through the nose for the good stuff?? Even though its guys like you, who best represent true performance? hmmm....

In my opinion rice is in the eye of the beholder. I get called a ricer a lot... honestly asked if my car was in 2f2f ("I swear man i saw it!") and so on... but from the time I bought this pos sohc no-name car with hubcaps i've built it for me; becuase to me it's an extension of who I am.. and if you let the world tell you who you are then I feel sorry for you.

hah I think in a couple days im opening a rice or nice poll thread for my car =)

I can see where you're coming from, and you should know by my prior post that I don't like it, but theres really nothing I can do about it. As long as ignorance exists, APC and them will always be making money.

I think everyone has missed the point of this thread...

Hes saying that the ricers give import sport car owners a bad name. The average person doesn't know about performance equipment or anything like that. All they see is whats on the outside. They need very bad looking cars that are loud, and annoying... very bad image forms from that...

Sorry if I am not making much sense

Great observation Pills, your on the money. But no one seems to care about that. What other people think should not matter...At least I think that is the consensus.

What I would like to see is ricers buying the right parts, so that APC does define the scene...thats how movies like 2F2F get made....neon...hehe....

Additionally, if the industry notices a push for "good" parts (and the rejection of crap), it would create more competition, lower prices, and more available parts.
