is there any negative to running low offset wheels? i mean i know it generally serves no purpose because its not like i would have clearance problems, but if i were to get like 15mm offset wheels, would it be detrimental to the suspension in any way?

I've wondered the same thing. The advantage I see to low offset wheels is that it allows one to use a wider wheel without sacrificing strut clearance. At some point a wheel will be too wide for the fender wells, and the only place it has to go is out. Running a low offset wheel seems to be the best solution for running super wide wheels. Compared to high offsets, it seems like it would place more force on the middle of the tire, which would cause less positive camber change during a hard corner. This is just a guess, but it has to affect suspension geometry somehow.

You are putting more stress on the hubs/bearing/spindle when you lower an offset and move the weight of the wheel farther away from the hub. Some wheels are designed better than others and put less stress on the car and more on the spokes (like a Volk with a low offset...you can see the spokes angled inward) but others are designed pretty much like having a molded in spacer (kosei k1 comes to mind).
