What does rice mean anyway? Is it one of those things where "beauty if in the eye of the beholder" thing?

Is it a play on words with "race"?

Ever been to asia? Seen a show about it on Discovery? Been to an Asian resturant? What is the #1 most common food product you see?

Rice.

It is shortened version of "Rice Burner", a term used back in the day when Jap cars were just comming around in the US. Possibly also because of the 1970s oil crisis, and the fact that Japanese cars were getting 3x-4x the gas mileage of US cars. The current term "rice" means a car that is overdone, showy, gaudy, or vulgar to the eye. Also referrs to non-functional "modifications" (neon, body kits, overly large wheels, big wings on street cars, etc).

It is most surely a "beauty if in the eye of the beholder" thing. Myself, I am into function not fiction

1. rice An automobile that has been equipped with gawdy, unnesecary accessories, such as 3' high spoilers, loud and/or repulsive paint job and body work. Owners of such automobiles feel that these accessories make their car the best in the world, when in fact it is not. That Prelude over there is nice, but this here Civic ain't nothin but a ric mobile

2. Rice i) Food staple, ususally associated with asian countries but consumed worldwide.

ii) A car, usually a late model of japanese origin, that has had numerous features added to it that may enhance its looks, but do nothing for its performance.Examples include "VTEC" and "Mugen" stickers, large spoilers, chrome wheels ( see also bling bling ), large diameter exhaust pipes, clear brake light lenses and lowered springs.

iii) Individual features of a car noted in (ii) above

ii) Look at that Civic!. It's pure rice!

iii) Don't put that huge spoiler on your car dude, it's 100% rice.

3. Rice any modification that is supposed to make a car look fast, when in fact it does nothing for speed, and may in fact hurt performance, or any vehicle that has been subjected to this treatment. note that any make of vehicle may be "riced". gaudy, pointless, absurd body modifications and paint schemes, annoying bees hive exhaust tips. asians are the best at "ricing" a vehicle, along with spoiled rich white high-school teenagers.

after watching super2nr tv, lets go check out the rice section of pep-boys.

4. rice v. To take a ****ty jap car, add some Vtech stickers, spoiler, and **** up the camber.I just spent $12000 ricing up a $8000 piece of ****.

5. rice Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. (R.I.C.E.)Parts put on cars to make them look fast, when they have no internal tuning, and are actually slow as hell. Parts usually consist of excessivley angular bodykits, large rear spoilers, neon, sponsor stickers, chrome rims, fake "coffee can" exhaust tips, and loud, annoying paint jobs and/or vynils. Sometimes parts are do-it-yourself installed and are basically duct taped to the car. Most commonly known for being done to Honda Civics, but can also be done to slow domestic vehicles, such as a Chevy Cavalier, etc."Yo dog, did you see the Civic that guy was rollin' in? it was so rice."

"This guy's got nothin' under the hood, it's just rice. Smoke him."

"What a riceboy, I bet he thinks his neon adds 50 bhp!"

9. rice To excessively modify and augment the physical appearance of sub compact economy vehicles in an attempt to make it them fast. Examples include unsightly body kits, oversised mufflers, (which are actually detremental to performance) neon lighting, thousands of decals, and of course, twenty inch rims which are far too heavy for these vehicles to handle.Jimmy G thought he was "dopey-fresh" in his riced out Honda. That was, until my Bronco used it as a ramp.

just don't be too quick to judge. Some cars can be "riced" out on the outside, but still be extremely fast.

Also, like in my case, I have a spoiler that is about 3-4 inches high from the previous owner and just haven't had the time to take it off, heh.

People who use term "rice" - are usually close minded individuals, either their way or no way. Its not all about performance, some people are not into performance and couldn't care less if their car is under 90hp. They rather have 30 TVs and 40 speakers. Everyone has their own taste, and personally I think the rice word should be banned from automotive industry. Because each person has their own taste and style. (Me personally I am into performance, but I don't think people who have alteeza lights and huge wings are ricers, its just what they like and that's... that.)

Straight Up...

A ricer is someone who mods their car to please other people, Period. Oh, and mexicans with civics and 13 inch wheels w/ 5 foot spacers and stickers that think they can beat anything.

I don't care if you have a wing made out of sticks and aluminum foil - if that's what you like, and you don't think you're car is better then everything else, then my hat's off to you.
