Take a read through this article I stumbled into today while doing some research:http://www.wired.com/wired/arc...(none)

Makes you wonder if one of the M's gets stolen what would the insurance company accuse you of doing to it?

Interesting article. Someone needs to teach the author how to use hyphens, though.

Yeah ... definitely interesting! I hope that the insurance companies come to their senses in this matter.

Isn't it standard proceedure to blame owner for car thief since there is so much fraud in the industry...........so many keys left in cars, so many underwater loans.

Ya i know that they can steal cars with transponders in the keys...easy as hell and i know how to do it. The new M class is not the same as a key with a transponder so for now they are safe. I'm sure there will be a way to do it soon but one of the keys would have to be duplicated and the signal then transmitted to unlock the doors and start the engine. This article has little to no relation to the ignition system used by the newer keyless ignition such as the M.

Who is to say the that theif didn't just break in, unlock the steering column, and then tow the SUV?

There is piece that i have seen that has a master key with a ribbon cable attaching it to a box that scrolls transponder resistance codes. It works on the Escaldes, Tahoes, Hummers, Suburbans...all GM SUV's. I have seen it work in person and i have also seen an increase of these trucks coming back to the shop after they have been a stolen recovery. The columns it tact as well as a functioning ignition switch.

As far as wiring around a transpnder, there are a few vehicle security pieces that can be used and given a few minutes under a dash, i can get almost anything started. I am not a theif but i have to think like one sometimes to prevent others from using the same tricks i do. Nothing is ever totally secure...if someone wants your ride bad enough, they will get it.
