So the Versa is getting prepped for delivery. The dealership is offering a discount on the extended warranty and a discount on fabric coating, exterior protection etc. They made the offer first, as a their way of apologising for the LONG wait.

Any other freebies or discounts offered?

If they really want to apologize, throwing it in for no charge would be a nice way to say "I'm sorry".

Sambot,

More info please. What kind of discount? The extended warranty is one of the biggest ripoofs in the industry...avoid them unless the price is droped by over 50%.

I got my Versa SL with CVT in magnetic Grey on Wednesday. I got $3 off my monthly payment ($180), Free winter wiper blades ($50), my first four oil changes free ($140) and an even bigger part of my down payment on credit card (I get cash back).

Regular price for the 6yr/160,000km or 7yr/120,000km extended warranty is $1900. After flatly rejecting it, Nissan offered to lower the price to $1450. I still said no. Here's why: If I took $1450 today and put it in an ING direct savings account (low-risk, 3.5% return) I'd have over $1900 after five years. I could do a lot more with that money if I put it in a mutual fund. If you need to spend $1900 in repairs on a Nissan after the standard warranty is over, I'd be surprised. Everything that goes with normal use is excluded form these extended warranties.

Bottom line: Only suckers buy extended warranties. Bank or invest the money. You'll end up ahead even if you have to make some repairs.

I hate to say this to you, but since they are offering "discounts" on things that you don't need, those are not really discounts but just another way the dealership is trying to milk you.

A good quiz is:

"You paid $70 on something you don't need that is usually sold at $100. How much did you save?"

Answer: Zero. Actually, you are out $70.

Good Sambot that it is finally coming after I believe 14 or 15 weeks. Anyway it is like our pals stated. Extended Warranty is an upsell like undercoating and the like. As if the dealership has nt made $3400. on the sale less ... $ 480 to the salesperson. I worked in the business and so also is one of my sons. Take it from both of us ... better ask for a bunch of free oil changes.

I'm glad to hear you're finally getting your car. I agree with Jacksan. The dealer telling you, "Sorry for the inconvenience. We'll allow you to pay us less money on upgrades," just shouldn't cut it after all the crap you've been through. Either they give it to you for free or no dice. Robi's got a good idea. Things like oil changes (even free diagnostic services after the warranty expires) are good things to ask for. If you haven't got them yet, mats and sill plates are other items that dealers usually throw in for free. And if you need to act like you’re going to walk away, then do it. Sure they will sell the car eventually, but why would they want to do that when they can sell it now for sure. If you explain what you’ve been through, I’m sure they will accommodate to satisfy you and make that sale.

Thanks all for comments. Grumpy spouse snarled at the up-sales guy and put in his request for service add-ons, threatening to walk. Of course our $1,000 non-refundable deposit is still an issue. The sales manager phoned back and agreed. I know we could have asked for more, but we didn't want any of the add-ons when we contracted to buy the car, and we don't want them now. I still want the new grad rebate, which is only available to lease or loan.

Dealership got a swack of different cars, and because the V is the bottom of the line-up of vehicles, we are low priority for shipping out to customers, or that's what I think. It's either that or they are shipping out cars in alphabetical order.

I asked for a loaner car a few days ago, hoping this would move things along. Yeah right. This is the first time in 29 years we've had to share a vehicle. It hasn't been pretty. THe car is getting prepped on Monday, and we get delivery on Tuesday. It feels like an anti-climax. THis car damn well better be worth it.

I guess I'm a sucker. If I didn't have my extended warranty on my Dodge I purchased I would have been out a large amount of cash. I paid $1250 for a 100k mile warranty, guess what at 98k the $2200 injection pump went out. With labor and additional parts the bill came to $2800. So I guess I saved $1500 dollars.

I purchased the extended 100k warranty on the Versa after first saying no several times knowing they would lower the price. They threw in the 3 year pre-paid maintenace plan at no additional cost along with roadside towing for $1350. I walked in with cash and cash speaks so we got the Versa for a total of $16,275. They threw in a Nissan ballcap and a dealer installed appearance package, pinstripping and door edge guards.

How is your deposit non-refundale? If you are dissatisfied with the level of service or delivery time or numerous other things you should be able to get your deposit back with no problem. Especially since Nissan claims demand is high and supply is low. They should be able to sell that car to someone else pretty quick if you back out. I had no problem getting my deposit back when I was told it was going to be a 3 month wait for a V. I found the exact one I wanted a week later at another dealer.
