So finally got my new wheels that I ordered waaaaay back in October and wrapped some serious rubber around them. Unlike some others, this required some major trimming and removal of the running-boards but I get ZERO rub at full lock in either direction. The wheels are RBP 93R's 17x9's custom drilled and bored out and the tires are BFG TKO 285/70R17''s. Thanks to Andrew (01silvapathy) for his great write-up on NPORA. Here's a few pics of before & after AND with and without the running-boards.

looks good. just don't take it wheeling because you'll rub the hell out of the top of the front fenders.

I'm going to be testing the flex in the next couple of days and probably trim some more. BTW my wheeling is not your wheeling, the amount of average flex is a little lower.

Super sick! :dblthumb:

It's amazing how new wheels and tires can make a vehicle look so much more aggressive!
Kudos!

Thanks guys, I'm really stoked. It feels like a whole new vehicle now. At first I wasn't sure they'd work but after evaluating where the rubbing was occurring, which was much worse then those with the pathy's, I was able to trim and make it work.

I say we do an R50 weekend in the desert this summer, maybe Anza Borega. Would you be game? I know fueler is down.

Are you going to spray anything on the exposed metal in the well so it doesn't rust. Rockers are a pain to fix if rust spreads in them.

It's really not necessary for so-cal but I guess it couldn't hurt. What do you use?

I have a can of this.

But anything that displaces water should work. With all the stuff the tire will throw back from the road you might want something that is a bit thicker. There was that under coat someone on the forum used, it may work for you as well.

Billy, all I can say is Nice Job!!!  That really looks good, the 1st Q I can say looks better with rocker modling/side steps off. Love the tire/wheel color combo. Those are some pricey tires in that size too. I think the BFG's are about the best all around tires out there (not for mudding though). Looking forward to More pics, and yes cover that bare steel. I think I used a 2 part epoxy on the Explorer (maybe POR-15 or something or other).

Looks real good!!!! If your not worried about rust in SoCal, I think it would look good if you painted the rockers silver. They kinda stick out in the pictures, they may not stick out as much painted. Overall the truck looks awesome.

Thanks! The 2-ply epoxy sounds like a great idea. I'll be doing that shortly.

Are you referring to the panels under the doors? If so they are silver and look black due to the shadow. My next step will be rock sliders as I'll need some sort of protection against rocks and such. I think they'll look pretty sweet as well.

What happened to Nala's post? They're so entertaining and always turn out to be a PSA about drinking while pregnant.
