maybe it's a useless reassurance of one's manhood and authority over their vehicle as man is born with the affinity to be proud and boastful of all things trivially materialistic...

bye bye gas

looks stupid to me but maybe by revving it they increase the oil pressure before shutoff but I would think the engine would spin longer increasing the chance of spinning under no pressure and negate any possible benefit. I have to beleive it's done for a reason, factual or perceived.

Don't do it in your car.

Never rev the engine before shutting it off. Too many drivers have this habit, some because they erroneously think that this extra pump or two will circulate oil throughout the engine and thus give better protection when the engine is off.

Actually, exactly the opposite is true -- besides wasting gasoline and irritating your neighbors, this habit has a wide range of negative side effects: Pumping the accelerator while idling causes a surge of raw gas to flood the cylinders, and much of that gasoline, because it doesn't have time to be ignited, ends up diluting the oil and washing away vital cylinder oil coatings. This makes the next start a truly dry one.

Maybe they are running something other than gas such as nitrous and they want to get every thing cleared out before shutoff, i had alot of old cars we would make sure we had cleaned out before we shut them off cause it made it start easier

hehe thanks. I didn't fell like typing out my explanation, so I just did a little copying and pasting. I'm sure it came out better that way :)

As for these "professional street racers" (I'm guessing you mean the stuff you see on espn2 and speed channel) I think maybe they do it so that the "ricers" will want to mimic them, and in the process the ricer destory's his/her car :evilhaha

Haha so ture APEXi, what exactly makes a professional street racer. The guy that shows up with the most riced out P.O.S??? If they are "professional" they either take it to the track, if they do race on the street I bet they rarely take it to a gathering with a bunch of little **** faced ricers.

Well things are probley different in you guys neck of the woods, the group consists of who is the fastest by who looks the ugliest here, but I have seen videos of racing in other parts of the country and ppl bring vipers and vettes!!!!! Now that I would love to goto.
