From what I was reading on another forum, it seems as if the main restriction on a reving KA is the valvetrain, intake, cams and balancing. Someone mentioned that the KA has really long rods, but it was brought up that a 4g63 has almost identical length rods and that the KA has almost the ideal rod length. Any truth to this?? I ask because Iam soon going to start my SM Motor project. My projected goals is a 225-250rwhp w/ a 8k redline(another thread discussion??). Granted this maybe alittle difficult to obtain, Iam hoping carbs will be a helpful way to get there.

So the 4g63 can wrap out @ 8k, shouldnt the ka, as far as bottom end go or with alittle bottom end balancing?

I dont think the 4g63 rods are 165mm.

All things considered, this engine is designed very well. The ka24 has an very long rod in comparison to most other engines. The rod/stroke ratio helps keep things together by reducing side loading and slowing piston acceleration. Even without the use of balance shafts or other external harmonic components, reliability/stress/wear is relatively good.

With a properly prepared complete rebuild, using forged high compression pistons and basic valvetrain upgrades (cams, springs) you will have a longblock that can accomplish what you are after. A lot of other things fall into preparing an engine, but those are the basic factors for the KA up to 8k.
