to get reverse, you have to pull the shifter outward(to the passenger side) and go forward and down. just like going into second but when you pull it outward, it gets past the reverse lock.

if you find a source of carb rebuild kits, let us know. I have seen one for sale on ebay since watching for them on ebay for over a year. I see a lot of carb rebuild kits for the j13 carb, it is possible some of the parts are the same, and it wouldn't surprise me if there are kits available from Singapore, or the far east.

No problem I was just pointing out the difference in locations. Perhaps there's a Carbureator Exchange in his area. I know there was one up the street from me in Montclair when I lived in La Verne that rebuilt a 510 carb for me some years ago.
