now my question is can I reuse any of the 3 sensors from the automatic transmission? or are they different fo the manual? It seems like the only sensor on the transmission is a back-up lamp switch.

neutral sensor, and od (5th) sensor. i have a reverse-lamp one

an auto uses a PRNDL switch tells the auto ecu what gears it's in...you can't use that on a manual. it's impossible.

the FSM said it's a inhibitor switch...but dose the same thing...tells what gear the drive has selected.

So I will have to source out the sensors? Can I use s13 manual ones or do they have to be from a S14?

Ok sounds good. Are they inter-changeable? Like can I unplug the neutral sensor and plug it into the OD sensor and use it there? Or are they all individual and different?

Thanks! How much are they worth? I'm thinking about just ordering through Nissan if I can't find them.

The sensors are about $20-30 a piece from Courtesy Parts- new. Do you have the speed sensor? If you buy it new, be aware that a lot of times you also have to buy the pinion gear and retainer clip separate

I have the s14 speed sensor. I just don't have 2 of the 3 transmission sensors. (pics below)

Like the neutral sensor and the OD (5th) sensor. I have the reverse-lamp one. Can I buy these from Nissan? If so, they will come with everything right? (the ones in the pics below) I won't have to buy the clips etc. extra right?

I can't find the part # for the OD (5th) position sensor.

Neutral Position Switch comes in two different models. One is a +A and one is not, and they both have different part numbers...is that for ABS? I'm confused.

Reverse Lamp Position Switch, the one I have, I found the part # for easily.

Neutral Position Switch

Call Courtesy to confirm the correct part #. It is indicated in the correct position on the transmission diagram. The switches should perform basically the same function, but I would call just in case. I have received good customer service from them in the past.

OD 5th Position Switch

Alright I will check that out. Is it true that these switches are not needed for the functioning of the car? Only if you want to get rid of the CEL I hear.

Thanks for your help btw

The reverse switch and speed sensor are required for the functionality of the car. Multiple issues can result in CELs, including missing transmission sensors. Good luck with your swap

I have the reverse-lamp switch and the s14 speed sensor. I am just missing the neutral sensor and the OD (5th) sensor. So I can still drive the car fine right? Other than a CEL I won't notice anything correct? I'm thinking of just pulling out the CEL bulb if I have too!

How about wiring them? What do I plug into them? Will I have a cable or plug or something coming from my current harness that is connected to my auto transmission, or will I have wire my own plug from the inhabitor by the fuse box in the engine bay?

Maybe this will help ya

the reverse sensor and 5th sensor are both an open and closed circuit switch the reverse sensor actually has an OHM load that the ECM picks up on which will throw the CEL. You can do without the 5th, just not the neutral and of course the reverse and speed sensors.

Oh ok. So I have to wire the neutral sensor, just not the 5th? I was on zilvia and the post there said:

Quote »You do NOT use the 5speed lower harness, there's nothing to plug into on the chassis side for the wiring you're hoping to gain. Hardwire the reverse lights, run the wiring for the neutral and 5th position switches *if* you want the CEL to stay out. You do not need either one to operate the car.[/quote]Thus why I'm assuming I can do without the 5th position and neutral switches. I have the s14 speed sensor and the reverse-lamp switch so thats not a problem.

To be honest I don't really care if its throwing a CEL. I have a auto ECU so it will do that anyway. If anything I will just pull out the CEL bulb, but as long as the car is running properly I don't mind doing that. If I'm screwing it up by not using the switches then I'll go and buy them lol.

Thanks for clearing that up Salem. Sorry for the incomplete reply Dazzla.

Do not connect the 5th position switch to an a/t ECM [terminal 7]. This is the diagnostic connection for the a/t control unit which is explained in the link Salem provided.

Do you know of a good source to get these quickly?

Thanks
