Hey guys.

I just recently bought a 95 j30 with 115,000 miles on it . The car runs great and shifts very smooth threw all the gers, But ive just come to realise that the the reverse only works when it feels like it , it seems that when sometimes i try to put it in reverse nothing happens ? I give it some gas and nothing happens ,doesnt move or anything . I just got it the other day for 1500$ and now im starting to lose sleep over it . PLEASE HELP ..

Welcome to NICO!!!

In the automatic shifter box there is either a band or a clip (I'm getting old-I can't exactly remember) that detiorates over age and prevents or creates misses for putting the car in reverse. I would start by taking a looking at that first.

Its an easy DIY fix. The part is under $10 bucks at your local Infiniti dealer.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you should probably be able to get to that by taking the center console off. The tray for the armrest compartment comes out with a couple of screws, the cupholder also comes out. Then you'll have access to the top of the transmission with another few screws, as well as the 02 sensor wires and the airbag computer/controller (but don't fiddle with those).

I hope I'm in the right ballpark.

The first step should be opening up the transmission shift console to see if you even need the part. I would bring the part in, since I don't even know what its called. You tell them where you pulled it from and they should be able to figure out the part number.

If you can't do that, bite the bullet and take into an Infiniti dealer for a service consult.

Did you ever resolve this problem? Stebbins has the same problem and doesn't know what to do, he wants me to fix it for him.
