I had a weird noise happen when i was going into reverse and just backing up. My mom told me it was the transmission and should not pull it into reverse so fast when i start the car up. So it maybe that your tranmission is not working properly or you are doing it to fast. But other then that i do not know.

mine has done that too, but not often. I took it to a transmission shop, had fluids flushed and changed to full synthetic. Hasn't done it yet, but don't know if that was the fix either.

I had that same issue before. I replaced my brake pads and it stopped but you said you replaced your brakes a 6-8 months ago so I don't think bad brakes would be the problem. Maybe it's your transmission?

just another idea...

check your exhaust hangers too.

one of mine broke off the exhaust itself (not the car side) and everytime i turn it rattles so i took it off

i've had the wheel well problem, just take them off too

just another idea...

it depends who you are, and if the hangers are important.

for me it's not important. so i just un did it.

i got my car smashed, fixed threw on a free carbon fiber can.

there are three hangers from the cat back, so for me 2 is enough. i think my aftermarket exhaust system caused stress on there so having 2 hangers is not a problem for me.

i'm not saying to take it off but if money is tight and you don't want it "fixed" or if it's just a beater 240 then by all means.

I'm having this issue again.

I'm gonna take a look underneath tomorrow to see what the deal is. It's probably something minor as well.

even if my suggestions are not the problem. step back and take a look at some other ideas. i say this because if you've never looked under your 240 there is not much there... ie. not much that can go wrong.

just a thought....

my car does this noise aswell. The first i heard it was like one week ago. It makes a creaking noise but i couldnt actually feel it. At first i thought i ran over a metal toy or somthing but i realized that the car felt perfectly normal when i backed up, no hesitating when i heard the noise, no bumping nothing. I am confused...

btw, i did a full rear brake caliper refreshment including pads in august

well for me what fixed this was replacing my rear brakes. the old ones were pretty worn out. I did this about a month ago and have not heard anything when i back up anymore. I do hear squeaking from all over the place when i hit potholes or bumps on the road now!!! i need bushings!!

thats exactly what was wrong with mine. I had to apply the brakes really slow and even then it still would do it. Like i said i changed the brakes and it stopped. hope that helps

Yeah i think its a bearing or u-joint or something. like i said before, i replaced my brakes not more then 3 months ago and i hear it. I also wasnt using the brakes, it happened when i was parrallel parking after i released the brake to back up.

that sounds like a different problem than mine. My car was doing it only when i applied the brakes. so i had to find parking spots where i could just pull straight forward when i had to get out! cause backing up was embarrasing!!

I will see if i can get it to make the noise again today. I dont remember exactly what the conditions were that it happened with.
