reverse lights? what the?

hey guys,

i got a ca18det 99' 180sx.

the reverse lights seem to always be on when i put globes i them. it was originally a auto to - manual conversion.

why do the lights stay on and not just come on when in reverse?

Possibly the switch is bad on the transmission or the wires could be shorted together on the harness.

where will i find the switch on the transmission? its bugging the hell out of me!

just to confirm its a 1989' not a 99'.
