My reverse light does not work anymore. Can someone tell me how the reverse light is activated? I checked the wires but nothing seems wrong. Is there a sensor in the transmission itself?

does anyone know which sensor I need to check out to solve my non-functioning reverse light problem?

you have the wrong kind of bulbs in your taillights then. some bulbs have 2 or 3 different filaments in them and they light up at different times, if you put bulbs with the wrong # then there is no filament to light up when you hit the brake which is why it goes out and the other comes on. the transmission has nothing to do with your brake lights.

did you check the bulb itself?

Also check your grounds for the lights. When you pop out the fixture for the bulbs it'll be the black wires running to a screw, just tighten up the screws super tight. I had the same problem on my old 89

Get a volt meter and set it to the DC Scale. Have someone one you trust sit in your car while its running. Have them put it in reverse( With foot on brake) and check to see if you have 12 volts at the light socket. If you do then its your bulb. If not trace it back till you find your voltage.

The SWITCH in the transmission. Are you blind? The answer has been posted already. Do the same as topless recommended, but you can trip the reverse lights with the igniton on, the car doesn't need to be running. There are four switches on S14s, five on S13s, the wire colors for the reverse switch should be green and green/white. The green wire is the input, and comes off the gauge fuse in the car. In the future realize that some of us prefer for newcomers to actually USE their brain, no one is going to fix your problems for you. I myself have no respect for anyone who can't pick up a tool and at least try. You have the answer now, go fix it and let us know if it worked.
