Hi gents and ladies, I'm new to the forum. I searched the forum for reverse light switch but I didnt find a solution to the problem I'm having with my z32. It's a 1995 z32 5spd and the reverse lights didnt work so I checked the fuses i think it was fuse 19 if I remember correctly. The fuse was good so I went to purchase a back up light switch. The car still had the original plastic plunger one and I changed out with the aftermarket one. When installed and the car is put in reverse the lights didnt come one. But I checked by pushing the metal plunger in by hand and the lights turned on. So my dilemma is that whatever pushes on the plunger in the transmission isn't pushing far enough to activate the reverse light switch. So is there another switch I could use? I even tried making my own with a neutral safety switch shell as they are longer. But it only worked for a little bit as it grounded itself and blew the fuse. I'm to the point im.about to run my reverse lights with a toggle switch. Any help would be appreciated.

You are correct, aftermarket switches require a longer throw to activate. see link below:

Best option is to purchase a new OEM:

Hi all, I went to the nissan dealer and bought an OEM reverse light switch and it worked!!! It was a pain in the butt to put in but I found (from cutting a 19mm wrench) if you have a 19mm wrench about 6" long it will do the job without too much disassembly. Just had to pull the vehicle speed sensor out to have room to work.
