I also get a scrambled screen when I activate the park break to display a dvd image. I get sound when i play the dvd but no video. What do u think is the issue??

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

Not exactly sure what to say here, unfortunately!

Does the screen look normal for all other non-video stuff? I.e., the GPS and vehicle operating information all shows normally?

Did this just start happening, or has it been this way since you bought the car (i.e., is it a recent used car purchase)?

Is it possible that somebody tried to do the "video hack" that allows DVD's to be played when the car is in motion (Eek!) and messed it up?

As a complete SWAG, I'd say the vertical scan of the video feed (i.e., from camera and player, etc.) is bad. This could be a broken wire in the cable/connector, or the video input line (meaning the line that does 0.75 Volt p-p video) on the LCD panel is bad. Could also be the video interface components/circuitry on the screen.

Try doing a reset of the car system (the Service Manual is at NICO - link is in my SIG below - may have instructions for this. You can also run extended diagnostics (also in the Manual) and see if it provides any insight.

If that does not work, search for a "24 Volt accessories" shop that knows what to look for with video equipment in cars, rather than taking it to the dealer.

Good luck with this - please let us know what the eventual fix turns out to be!

And, of course, welcome to NICO.

- Yes the screen looks normal for everything else.

- Was working for a couple of months then went bad. I live in NY, it started when the weather got cold and I used to restart the car and it would be fine then after a while it just stayed consistent.

Is it possible that somebody tried to do the "video hack" that allows DVD's to be played when the car is in motion (Eek!) and messed it up?

- Nope, never had the time to do it, it started like 6 months after getting the car.

Thanks again for the response, I have the manual, tried everything suggested except resetting the system. I will try what you suggested. As for the 24v shop waiting on a tech to comeback from vacation at the end of the month. I changed the camera control unit but its still happening so I know its not the camera control unit. I was gonna have infiniti diagnose it, but something tells me they are gonna try to kill my pockets.

I was able to get a proper diagnosis on the issue. Believe it or not it was the DVD player in the arm rest that is bad and needs to be changed out. I will do this and everyone posted.

It actually ended up being the Navigation unit that was bad. Changed it out with one I purchased on EBay.com. Works like new.

Thanks for the follow-up. In hindsight, that might make more sense given that not all models with back-up cameras have a DVD player. Did you end up replacing the DVD player before solving the problem, or did you manage to get a better diagnosis.
