reverse/backup light bulb replacement

Does anybody know how to accomplish this? The manual seems to show you access it by removing the license plate bulb, but after having tried that I don't see how that is possible.

has anybody done this that can offer some advice.

What model do you have? QX4 or Pathfinder? What year is it?

Ive never done it nor do I know what you are working on, but on my 01, when I replaced the liscense plate bulbs with LED's, arent the backup lights accessable through the back of there?

I just checked a few pics of Pathfinders from various generations, none of them look like the licence plate lights are even *close* to the reverse lights. All of the Pathys look like they have the signal, brake, and reverse lights all in one housing unit on each side.

I just changed one of my brake lights on my '03. Opened the hatch and undid the two bolts on the light housing (in the area the hatch covers). Then I stuck a flathead screwdriver between the rear quarter-panel and the light housing and pried the housing apart from the body. Voila, access to three bulbs -- turn signal, brake light, reverse light. With the '03 you pull the bulb right out; other models you may unscrew them. Take the bulb down to the store, look up which ones you need, and make sure the new ones are the same as the old ones.

mine is an 01 pathy and its the exact same as Densetsu, very easy to change and the bulb size is the same as the licence plate lights.

2003 Qx4, and despite the manual showing them right next to the license plate lights (well technically they are- just can't access them from there) you have to remove the inside of the tailgate and then they are right there.
