I'm having problems shifting in reverse sometimes. My friend told me that in some cars you have to shift into first gear first, and then in reverse, but it doesn't always work.So what's the deal with the 240sx?Is that normal?

PS:I used the search and didn't find anything.

Damn it's good to know someone else's car does that too.I have no solution exept shift to 1st then back to reverse. Usually works.

Yeah mine doesn't go into reverse everytime, i usually just let up the brake and let the car move and it goes right in, going to first and back works too i think.

I think it has to do with the fact that the reverse gear is it's own seperate gear and isn't syncronized, since it spins backwards

Well you guys are lucky that you guys only have the problem once in a while......mine doesn't go into reverse at all. My solution: SR20DET swap. :)

Yeah...However if it does it excessively, and it takes like 4 or 5 tries and pumping on the clutch pedal just to get it in gear...you'd probably need a rebuild...But you'll usually know when it gets that messed up.

mine goes in every single time. dont' have to go to first or anything. just push the button, and pull down.

what was said earlier about the synchros is correct. reverse is not synchronized like the forward gears so the input shaft spins at a different speed than the output shaft, that is why it grinds.

either put it in gear and then put it into reverse or just let out of the clutch and try again and you should have no problems if your transmission is working properly.

I not only have the problem with reverse, but sometimes it doesn't want to go into 1st, either. Sucks sitting there in traffic fighting your damn transmission because it won't pop into gear.

Usually letting the clutch out and pushing it back in will help.

I sometimes have that problem too. I just go into 2nd then slide into first easily.

Well the problem with first gear is that you can't shift into it unless you're driving really slow.I think 10mph or something like that.Oil eh?Gotta do that.

mines does that just about every time. i just let out the clutch and try again. i think its mostly a result of me beating the crap out of my car!

Usually when cold, mine wont go into reverse immediately. So i just throw it back into neutral, let the clutch out, then put the clutch back in, and it goes back into reverse...thats the way i was told...

yea i have that problem.well, as a matter of fact, it wont go in any gear right now! thats because im leaking fluid from my clutch master cylinder, but as soon as i get those damn bolts off and put in my new one and bleed the clutch, it will work fine!
