I, obviously, have a problem with my car. It is a 90 240sx the the ka24e. In every gear, the car doesnt rev past 5000 rpms. I dont know why this is. It just bounces off 5000 like it is the rev limiter, but redline isnt till 6500. I dont think my speedo is off by 1500 because that would mean i am idling at 2300 and that just isnt so. I am new to the board and i tried searching back threads, but with aol it is terribly slow. any help would be great.thanks - Mike

i'v read on this site that it when the car is in safety mode it limmits your revs.

The rev limiter will kick in under two conditions

1) you have hit redline2) you have hit the maximum governed speed.

More than likely your fifth or fourth gear sensor is bad and is telling the transmission you are in that particular gear, thus the ecu thinks the car is going 110(or whatever the speed is) and it rev limits.

Wouldn't safety mode produce a code? There are no codes shown.

I'm pretty sure the sensor is on the transmission.

just remove the 5th gear sensor, it fixes it, tape it off to another sensor or something

all u do is pull it out

are u sure u checked the codes correctly it goes liek this. key on, dial on, the leds will blink twice then three times and shut the dial off then it will show the code. if theres nothing wrong both will flash 5 times. if there is a code take note of it and respont on this tread and ill tell u what it is and to erase the code after this < u start the car then turn the dial on 2 seconds, dial off, car off, car on and the code will be erased

im not sure but when i got under the transmission there was 3 plugs i unplugged the 1st one and the last one and left the middle one plugged..then got some electric tape and taped up the ends of the plugs then i reved my engine up and it went all the way up to 7k...so im guessing i removed the right sensors since everything was running right hehe..i kinda knew it was sumething under the transmission causing the rev problem but everyone kept saying no..o well thats history for me..no more puttin back power of my 240...it now literally goes sideways when i double clutch on 1st gear up to 6k then i shift at 7k and it chirps again...ahhh the power this car has was sealed now everything is let looseeeeeeee hehee

I'm having the same problem with the rev limiter kicking in at 5k RPM, my friend told me just to reset the ECU by unhooking the battery for a good hour, would this really work?
