rev limiter

I have a 1990 240 fully stock and I was wondering when the rev limiter kicks in and how it kicks in? does it have to do with any of the sensors on the transmission?

ummm I personally don't know about rev limiters because I dont redline my stock motor haha. But I know there is a governer at 116MPH on stock 240's. Hope that helps.
