I got a couple questions.

I have a KA engine with intake and header back exhaust (sounds real nice) but.....when i wanna show off stock rev limiter sucks balls since it doesnt spit like i want it to.

So my questions are:

1. Do i need to get a better ignition system to handle a new rev limiter

2. and whats a good brand thats not too pricey? i hear Bee*R is nice but not for KA engine

im only a 16 year old kid that wants to learn about this. ive only scratched the surface of knowledge.

By spit, do you mean backfire? I would really reconsider any mods that you might be thinking of doing, since the sole purpose of them seems to be to show off.

My car is going to be a show car mainly. I dont wanna have to do anything big to the engine, just sound nice and run smoothly is my main concern.

Yes i meant backfire. Id like a limiter that cuts the spark to the plugs and sounds mean and is easy on the engine.

Run smoothly and backfiring don't really belong in the same sentence. You will pretty much guarantee total destruction of your catalytic converter with one of those limiters. Bouncing off of it is definately not good for your engine, and I bet most people would just think your car is breaking down, (which is what it would be doing very soon). I heard those limiters are useful in drag with a turbo charged car, but putting it on a NA car is rice, pure and simple.

I don't think you would need to make any upgrades to your ignition system though. What is wrong with the bee*r since you seem to be so set on this.

So pretty much dont get one unless you wanna be called a poser? Cause thats not what im trying to be. Im not a hardcore drifter or racer just a daily driver with a nice look and sound to it but on occasion i like to have some fun which is why i want the rev limiter to help me know when im too high in the RPM range. Yea id have fun revving it at my house to show off a bit but not like minutes on end everyday.

All i want is a limiter that bounces slow and wont ruin my engine (not worried about the cat cause im running a test pipe.)

Any suggestions on brands? Thats really where im stuck.

One of those ignition cutting limiters on an NA engine is pretty posery, I am not going to lie. If you can not tell when you are high in the RPM range without something going boom, then you have bigger problems.

I don't know if there will be too much help on the forum with this topic, because I don't know off the top of my head anyone who is running one of these. I did a quick google search and it seems a company called pertronix makes one also. Not sure if it can be used on the KA though because it seems that it needs a distributorless ingnition system. Best bet would probably be to search on your own and keep checking back to see if anyone else replies in this thread.

there is a bigger issue here, you want to do something cheap....... your only 16.........

so this tells me two things. and not to be a d!ck but just to help your 240sx experience..............

first you've never really messed up a car before cause your still young and just starting out, you've never had to fix something and pay for it

second, you want it cheap so don't have a lot of money one would presume from this statement.......

first things first, if your worried about money, don't worry about a rev limmiter, keep your dumb *** calmed down and don't go reving your motor to redline, no matter what kind of limmiter you have its not good.... and say you have a bad bearing or oil starvation..... motor go KABOOOOOOOOM..... motor will cost way more then a rev limmiter.....

don't sit there just revving your engine lol..... get a lawn mower or something to do that to if you like that kind of assinine ****

now if your comming out a corner hard and take it up to 7krpm for some good momentum and take the engine to a higher RPM for the next gear, thats fine........ but to just sit there and do it for the hell of it.....

you have problems

Spark-cut type will destroy catalytic converters, and put you at risk for bore wash. Fuel-cut type won't cause back-fires, but still might cuase a lean condition. Revving your engine without a load is a sure way to mess up internal stuff. Bouncing off rev-limiters is never a good idea.
