rev limiter problem

I own a 93 fastback se. It redlines at 7000 rpms but when I was racing a bmw the other night the rev limiter kicked in at about 6300 rpms. I dont know why it is doing that but some help would be nice.

there is a speed limiter on 4th and 5th gear. how fast were you going? should have cut you out about 110-115.
