Hey everyone i'm new hear. I'm a mechanic that owns a what i would call a custom 97 Nissan Hardbody. Looking to see if there are any Nissan techs or anyone who could help with my problem. I had a bad problem with the motor sputtering and stalling pretty bad mainly at low rpm. Also it has a weird almost like a rev limiter at 2400 rpm only when cold and warming up it goes away after a while and i can stomp it to pass it, but if increasing throttle slowly it happens. I found that the distributor "coil" was dropping spark badly only when quickly increasing throttle.replaced dist. Now the sputtering is greatly decreased but the rev limiting problem is still there only at 2400 rpm and also occasionally a sputter not much at all. I did all of the timing procedure the best i could. If anyone has had this problem or heard of it anything please help thanks nissan brotheren.

Theory #1: Bad MAF or wiring... at times it will run too rich and foul the spark plugs, which would make sense why you were able to get a little better after changing the distributor. Check the wiring to the MAF and once over all of your fuses. If you get a chance, pull a plug and take a look at it. Could also be TPS, etc.

I have owned 2 nissan trucks a maxim and a 300ZXTT I love the body style of the 240 sx may be my next nissan, pics are great post a final pic of the finished product looks great so far. Oh and when is nissan going to make a rear wheel drive maxima LOL that would be a great car. if I had the money would love to buy an older max and convert it to rear drive. Saw a shirt one day with a kid on a big wheel that said, I learned at 5 yrs old front wheel drive sucked LOL

Thanks for the input. I had replaced the MAF a year ago cuz it went out. I own a top of the line Matco diagnostic scanner. I have checked all that i could including MAF, TP, MAP, ect. But the hardbody computer doesn't display very much info. I found a weird DTC for a transmission range sensor but i have a manual trans. The problem started when the timing chain tensioner went completely out a few months back. I changed it and made sure the chain was o.k. and aligned correctly. i also tried to mess with the adjustable computers idle speed. Which didn't do much at all. I heard the rev limiting action might be some kind of limp mode for the ecu. just not sure. also i wanted to put some pics of my truck on hear i'm getting a custom air brushed hood today and want to show my truck off. I'm new and don't know where to put pics.
