i noticed that when i hold the gas down through the gears that the shift points are more like @ 6500rpm. is this normal? i feel that there is power being lost there. anyone else having this happen? please post comments.

Is this with or without the VDC on? Also, do you use the Manual mode when trying this out?

Yes, I am fairly sure that the shift points are different between the "Drive" mode and the "Manual" mode ... I think this is described in the Service Manual on the AT.

But, as to whether you are losing any opwer at that point or not, I haven't the foggiest idea! Without having looked at dyno curves, it would be tough to estimate!

in manual mode i noticed it. i ran the car at englishtown new jersey today and ran 14.48@96 but felt the car was shifting too early.it shifts automatically before it hits the redline so whats the purpose! please if you have some info on maybe a reflash or some sort of tune so the car will at least shift at the red i know it will be faster!

I noticed this same issue the first day i got my m45. In 1st gear in manual mode it will shift into 2nd gear early but in 2-3 and so on it goes to almost redline on the tach, which is normal. The electronics are crappy in my opinion since I have driven many cars(Audis in particular) that will not shift until you tell it to in manual mode, but that is what the car does so unless someone can reprogram the TCM it is how it will be.14.48 @ 96 is what I expected it to do and I think that is pretty dam good for this car. The people that had the Gtech or whatever it was I didnt believe it would do 13s in stock form. But thats just my opinion.Cheers

yeah i was wrong myself because i was not sure of how acurate the gtech was. 3 tenths off quartermile times and 5 mph off. i do feel that the first gear shifting early does kill the quartermile time by maybe 1 or 2 tenths but thats it. it should go 77-78 in the 1\8th mile and 98-99 in the quartermile. that would bring it to the 14.3@98 time that fantasy cars got. still very impressive considering the car is in stock trim. with me in the car the weight was 3988 pds. my 60' time was 2.13. not to bad for a luxury car with dead gearing!

Since 1989 the Nissan 4.5 liter V8 engine has used a 6900 rpm redline/fuel/ignition cut.Very very safe considering the 3.256" stroke.
