is this issue finally getting to people? BTW this is a 6sd issue. Granted i have own my V since Oct. and i have been driving it fine. but i am getting annoyed that nothing has been done about this, or have recieved an explaination.

For people who dont know, on the 6sd, after you hit the clutch, the rev would stay where it is for a .5 to 1 sec, and then finally drop. this has cause me to shift slower, and tried to find a firmer spot to shift. it's just recently ppl have ask me, why i shift so slow, and it feel so rough with me driving. I tell them it's not my fault.

Sigh

The same issue bothered me at first, but eventually I learned to drive it. I had to realized I couldn't drive this car the way I drove cars in the past. I can now shift more smoothly and quicker than I did when I was waiting for the RPMs to drop back down. After 7k mile worth the practice in 2 months, I think I got it down finally.

BTW, I do think that Nissan should provide an explanation and a way to disable it.

I got used to it after 2 or 3 weeks. Almost every manual car I've driven has it's own quirks and requires a small learning curve. Now that I'm used to it, I think I like it better. I think it makes shifting under normal conditions smoother for me.

My fiancee who hadn't driven a manual in 4 or 5 years hopped in the car and drove it just fine. You can be slow changing gears and not have the jerkiness of getting the flywheel and engine spinning again if the revs drop.

It would be nice if the owners manual mentioned that the the revs tend to hang after lifting the throttle. You should notice that it's programmed this way intentionally and is clearly not just lag. If it was just lag, the throttle would hang when you are in gear too.

Because the car does this, it forces you to think a little bit more about shifting, not just slamming the clutch and mashing the car into gear like in most cars.

Yes, this means that the transmission isn't very "sporty". It's an economy car, that was pretty far our of the designer's mind at that point. However... once you learn to shift smoothly with it, you can learn to accelerate more smoothly... and as anyone who has ever autocrossed knows, smooth is fast.

Also, because these things make you pay attention to what you are doing, they can make you think more closely about how to drive the car for economy. Once I got used to the clutch and how to shift, I saw a 2 MPG boost with my "new" technique.

The lag was a real issue with me, Especially when the car would be really hard to take off from a dead stop smooth and without jerking the passengers around.Thats one thing I do not miss on the V,good thing there is no lag In my Prius

It's an emmissions thing. When the throttle snaps closed quickly, as we're used to happening in manuals of old, the emmissions spike. The Versa is rated as an ULEV (Ultra Low Emmissions Vehicle) and I'm afraid this anomaly is something folks with the 6 speed will just have to learn to live with.

Yea, this was an annoyance at first, but I've learned how to drive it just like any other man. It just takes some getting use to.

I haven't looked in the Sentra forum, but does anyone know if they experience the same issues?

there's a 5spd manual transmition option for TIIDAs offered with a 1.6 engine. I'm curious if this combo has the same behavior as the 1.8 6sp manual.

I'll try to test drive one and I'll post the results later this week.
