I noticed a while ago that the redline on the dohc s13 and s14 are different. I went to the car weight post and the engines make the same power at the same rpm. If they do make the same hp@rmp then why does the S13s cluster allows for more revs according to redline. Is it just cheap insurance or precaution. Are the rev characteristics different? the s14 has different cams than the s13, which makes the powerband a little narrower. But I really dont see going to the redline in a KA, at least a stock one, there is hardly anypower up there.

The reason is the S14 uses a heavier piston.

I guess that would explain it then. Thanks.

I think its worth mentioning that most publications that reviewed the S14 when it came out said that it was tuned for "more midrange torque" compared to the S13.

But I guess that wouldn't qualify the s13 motor as a "high end rever" would it? I haven't actually reved my s13 passed 3k rpm so I don't really know. I'm thinking the s14 has more mid range torque while keeping the peaks from the past motor.
